Supporting students\u2019 academic performance, classroom engagement, college and career goals, and overall well-being are the focus of these programs at the Academy of Accelerated Learning (AAL).<\/p>\n

Arts in Community Education (ACE)<\/h2>\n

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra ACE program brings the visual and performing arts to AAL. Each grade level explores a theme\u2014architects, detective, storytellers, etc.\u2014during artist visits, class projects, and the grand finale: attending a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concert just for them.<\/p>\n

Learning Journeys<\/h2>\n

Learning Journeys<\/a> are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students\u2019 career awareness (K4\u2013grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4 and 5).<\/p>\n

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/h2>\n

To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with three districtwide expectations: \u201cBe Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.\u201d For students who need more support, higher tiers offer structure, interventions, and follow-up to address specific concerns.<\/p>\n

After years of use, MPS and other districts across the country are reporting higher student achievement, improved school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and student suspensions.<\/p>\n
