As an Allen-Field School family, you have many opportunities to engage with your child and the other families at our school.
For more information about any of our offerings or how you can get more involved in your child’s education, please call (414) 902-9200.
Parent Center
The Allen-Field Parent Center offers an environment where parents, families, and community members join together in strong partnership. Our goal is to increase family participation in all aspects of our school community. Located in room 241, the center is open by appointment with our parent coordinator.
Events
Our Parent Center plans a full schedule of activities for families throughout the school year. Many of these are designed to celebrate individual student talents, skills, and accomplishments, and family support and strong attendance are important. Our free evening events connect families with the school curriculum in a way that is both meaningful and fun. You can find upcoming events on our calendar.
Health Night
This robust annual event showcases more than a dozen community organizations from around the city, including Ascension Smart Smiles, Bay View Community Center, Children’s Wisconsin, Milwaukee Public Library, and much more. Families can attend to learn more and discover resources and support.
Coffee with the Community
Monthly “Coffee with the Community” events bring in local organizations to share helpful information and resources with our families. Each session features a different topic, from cooking and nutrition to prenatal care, paternity support, and other family-focused services. These events offer a welcoming space for families to learn, ask questions, and build community connections.
Math/Literacy Nights
These family engagement events invite caregivers to work alongside teachers and students to build skills in math and reading. We provide hands-on activities, helpful strategies, and meaningful opportunities for families to support learning at home.
Monthly Newsletter
Allen-Field offers a monthly newsletter for families. The newsletter is available in English and Spanish. It is written by the principal, printed, and sent home with students.
Parent Coordinator
This role is designed to help parents and guardians find information about our school and MPS. Robrialys Cepeda is the parent coordinator at Allen-Field. You can contact her at [email protected] or by calling our main office at (414) 902-9200.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
Monthly meetings of the PTO promote engagement and improve school culture. These meetings are an important way to get involved at Allen-Field School. Our PTO coordinates events and fundraisers, gives input for schoolwide improvements, and more. To join the PTO or volunteer at PTO-sponsored events, please contact us at (414) 902-9200.
School Engagement Council (SEC)
School spirit and student enrichment are on the agenda for Parent Teacher Associations and Organizations districtwide. School policies, procedures, and student well-being are the work of School Engagement Councils, established in Milwaukee Public Schools in 1997.
The Allen-Field School Engagement Council brings together families, staff, students (when appropriate), and community members to support and inform shared leadership that can lead to increased student achievement.
Members of the council:
- Analyze school climate, performance, and budgetary issues.
- Advise school faculty and administration on matters affecting curriculum, student performance, and overall student well-being.
You can participate in our School Engagement Council as a voting member or guest. Email our parent coordinator or principal to suggest agenda topics for an upcoming meeting.
Student Support
Family participation is highly encouraged at Allen-Field.
Family involvement leads to improved test scores; higher self-esteem; and better grades, attendance, and behavior for children.
You can help your child succeed in school!
- Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day (9:15 a.m.).
- Call the Allen-Field attendance line at (414) 902-9260 when your child will be absent. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with anyone who is not there. We must also record absences correctly.
- Ensure that your child gets at least nine hours of sleep every night.
- Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.
- Check your child’s backpack every day for homework or important messages.
- Set aside a quiet space and time for homework. Help your child with assignments.
- Read with your child every day.
- Volunteer in the classroom.
- Ask how you can join our field trips.
- Attend the School Engagement Council monthly meetings.
