About

The Alliance School of Milwaukee is a small charter high school with a big mission: to create a safe, accepting environment where every student can thrive as their full, authentic self.

Part of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), Alliance is located at 8th and Walnut in the heart of downtown Milwaukee. Our school is committed to developing leaders, innovators, and advocates who promote peace, equity, and social justice while honoring and defending the rights of all people.

Founded in 2005, Alliance’s commitment to belonging is just as strong more than 20 years later. We were the first school in the nation built around reducing bullying, and we continue to provide an inclusive space for all learners. At Alliance, our students are welcomed, respected, and valued as important members of our community.

Strong relationships are the foundation of everything we do. A defining feature of our school is our restorative practices framework, which is woven into our curriculum and daily school culture. This approach helps students to build communication skills, take accountability for their actions, and strengthen and repair relationships. Small class sizes, individualized support, and meaningful connections with staff allow us to create a positive school climate where students feel known, supported, and ready to learn.

While we’re sometimes mistaken for an alternative school, Alliance is a traditional high school with rigorous academics at the center. We simply believe that feeling safe and accepted is what allows students to do their best work. Our experienced educators challenge students through engaging coursework that connects learning to real-world experiences. We foster creativity, integrate technology into the classroom, and help students develop the critical thinking and leadership skills needed for college, careers, and life.

Students also have many opportunities to explore their interests beyond the classroom. Our visual arts program offers meaningful opportunities for creative expression. Students can discover new passions and build connections through our clubs, athletic partnerships with local MPS high schools, service-learning opportunities, and community partnerships.

Many families are looking for a school where their child will feel safe, supported, challenged, and accepted. At Alliance, that’s exactly what we strive to provide every day—a close-knit school community where every student feels a true sense of belonging and has the support they need to reach their full potential.

Six Alliance Agreements

  1. Schoolwork comes first
  2. Keep a positive reputation. We must represent ourselves well.
  3. Leave it better than you found it—clean up after yourselves.
  4. Respect everyone’s differences because we are all equal.
  5. Be committed to each other and Alliance by respectfully offering encouragement and listening to each other.
  6. Be here on time, every day for every class.
