Audubon Middle School students follow a standards-based curriculum: English language arts, mathematics, social studies and U.S. government, physical and health education. Many Audubon eighth graders enroll directly in our high school.<\/p>\n

Educators and counselors help Audubon High School students choose programs that align with their college and career goals. STEM studies, community partnerships, and service opportunities prepare Audubon graduates to thrive in global society.<\/p>\n

Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/h2>\n

The Milwaukee Public Schools Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/a> recognizes and celebrates that our students come from many cultures and backgrounds. This plan focuses on high-quality, culturally appropriate teaching and learning. Our goal is to ensure that every student develops reading, writing, and math skills in ways that are meaningful to their individual lives and experiences. Our staff works together to understand each learner and find appropriate ways to assess and improve their progress. We then make sure that students can apply what they have learned in productive ways in school and in their community.<\/p>\n

Common Core State Standards<\/h2>\n

The curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools is based on Common Core State Standards<\/a>. These standards were developed with teachers, school administrators, and experts to prepare all children for college and the workforce.<\/p>\n

Audubon Academic Experience<\/h2>\n

An Audubon education emphasizes STEM, design- and critical-thinking skills, and bilingual, multicultural communication. Respectful, problem-solving communication practices support students\u2019 college and career goals and prepare Audubon graduates to contribute to more resilient, just, and diverse communities.<\/p>\n

STEM concepts and hands-on learning are embedded in all grades, content areas, and after-school enrichment programs.\u00a0Career and technical education faculty train students to use laser and vinyl cutters, 3D printers, CNC routers, design software, soldering equipment, and other fabrication tools.\u00a0Students tackle creative challenges using teamwork, analytical, and design skills in our Fab Lab.<\/p>\n

Creative communication and expression are encouraged in visual and performing arts classes.\u00a0Staff teach and model Restorative Practices (RP) to promote peace, community, and respect for all cultures and different ways of thinking.<\/p>\n

Students in the Audubon Middle School Bilingual Dual Language Program<\/a> learn to read, write, speak, and experience the world in Spanish and English.\u00a0ESL teachers provide specialized teaching and learning support in all content areas to students in grades six through twelve.<\/p>\n

Seniors who demonstrate proficiency in English, another language, and cultural competency can earn the Seal of Biliteracy, which is approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.\u202fNative speakers of English and other world languages can earn the Seal through MPS bilingual, ESL, immersion, or world languages programs. Students who earn this accomplishment receive a lapel pin, certificate, and notation on their transcript.<\/p>\n

High School Academics<\/h2>\n

Our high school provides challenging coursework, hands-on learning experiences, and service opportunities to prepare students for college and career. Audubon students complete 100 hours of community service before graduation day, exceeding the district\u2019s 25-hour service requirement.<\/p>\n

Advanced Placement (AP)<\/h3>\n

Sponsored by the College Board and taught by Audubon teachers, Advanced Placement<\/a> courses give students the chance to tackle advanced content and earn college credit. AP courses include computer science, English literature and language, environmental science, and psychology.<\/p>\n

Career and Technical Education<\/h3>\n
