Principal’s Message

Greetings,

Zannetta WalkerMy name is Dr. Z. Walker and I am the proud principal of “The Best School in the City.” Auer Avenue School is located in the heart of the north side of Milwaukee. We serve students in grades K4-5. We have high expectations for all students in the areas of academics, behavior, and respect. Our school strives to achieve its mission and vision to create a school community of learners that engage in successful learning and enriching experiences to benefit the whole child. Students will reach or exceed proficiency by expanding their mental, physical, and academic skills to help grow our community into college and career ready citizens.

Auer Avenue School strives to provide instructional programs that motivate our students to become lifelong learners. We look to caretakers to work as partners with the school in promoting a strong united team for the development of our students. Our staff is dedicated and ready to support your child with differentiated instructional methods, small-group instruction, and one on one assistance, interventions, and engaging activities that will help all students become successful learners. Our commitment to students’ academic success is the first order of business. As a member of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership, Auer Avenue works with local community partners, businesses, neighborhood associations, and officials to provide quality educational services and programs to our students.

We work diligently to improve our students’ self-esteem; as well as build character and confidence to become ethical citizens and leaders. We believe our students should be enthusiastic, creative thinkers who are able to use available resources and technology to solve any problem that they encounter.

Success in school requires thoughtful organization and commitment from all stakeholders and having 95% attendance or better is the key. Developing good relationships among staff, students, home, and school supports students’ academic and attendance goals. These connections make your child’s experience in school enjoyable and ensure you are always informed about your child’s progress.

Caretakers, please become involved in your child’s educational journey by participating in school events and activities. There are monthly family events, student council activities, adult “Big on Books” monthly book club, healthy-living activities and resources from Children’s Wisconsin, after-school tutoring, sports teams, parent resource center, connections with the Children’s Outing Association (located directly behind our school building), community events and youth sports. We have activities just for caretakers, as well.

Remember, you are always welcome to visit Auer Avenue School, the “Home of the Bears.” If you have questions about scheduling a visit, or need further information about our school, feel free to contact us at (414) 875-4500.

Sincerely,

Z. Walker, Ed.D., principal
