Welcome to Lloyd Barbee Montessori School, a diverse school community in the Rufus King Neighborhood. We have students from the neighborhoods within our five-mile transportation region and beyond. We strive to support the academic and social-emotional growth of each student. Our school community includes parents, staff, and students as well as our community volunteers who enthusiastically support the growth of the children who attend Lloyd Barbee Montessori. Our Montessori curriculum and approach develops lifelong learners who contribute positively to their community. We appreciate you taking the time to learn more about our school. You can find much information about our school community on this site. We welcome any questions you may have about our Montessori program. Please call us for a tour at (414) 874-5600.
We are honored to have our school named after Lloyd Barbee, a civil rights leader who fought for justice and equity for all. He also worked to desegregate Milwaukee Public Schools, creating the magnet program that led the way for public Montessori schools in Milwaukee. He was the only African American serving in the Wisconsin legislature from 1965 to 1977.
