As our partner agency through the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership, Silver Spring Neighborhood Center invests in our scholars’ academic success and overall well-being. Our shared campus makes it easy for Browning School families to access:
Browning School Safe Place
The Browning School Safe Place offers after-school childcare and enrichment activities to K4 through fifth-grade students and is coordinated by Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.
Johnson Controls Community Garden and Greenhouse
In 2018, Browning School and Silver Spring Neighborhood Center partnered with Johnson Controls, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and SHARP Literacy to renovate the old Browning School greenhouse. Students are now learning about science and math while building a Sustainable Urban Food System through our shared greenhouse, gardens, and aquaponics system. Students and families can enjoy the gardens’ tomatoes, plants, and cucumbers. Produce also makes its way to the neighborhood center’s Emergency Services food pantry.
Multi-Sports Complex
Built in 2018 through the generous support of the Milwaukee Bucks and Johnson Controls, this 55,000-square-foot sports complex includes six basketball courts, a 200-meter track, a soccer field, and a futsal court. The complex also welcomes residents of the adjacent Westlawn Gardens LEED silver-certified green housing development.
Whole Family Services
Center programs are diverse and designed to support family well-being from infancy through older adulthood. Visit the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center website to learn about its emergency food pantry, parenting classes, adult education and workforce development resources, and enrichment activities for young and school-aged children and teenagers.
