Activities

In addition to achieving academic excellence, students at Luther Burbank School are encouraged to expand their skillsets by participating in extracurricular activities.

Sports, clubs, and other activities allow students to hone their natural abilities while fostering creative expression and cooperation with others. By joining a sports team, students maintain high levels of physical fitness, practice sportsmanship, hone their leadership skills, and more. Students who participate in clubs at Burbank experience the joy of working with their peers and pursuing shared interests.

Extracurriculars

Art Club (Grades 4–8)

Once a week, Art Club members meet to design art activities and lessons that interest them—then get the opportunity to lead their classes in the lessons they’ve created! A variety of subjects, materials, and techniques are covered throughout the year, and students are also able to help decorate the school for special events.

Reader’s Theater (Grades 2–5) and Drama Club (Grades 3–8)

Fall

Students begin with Reader’s Theater in the fall, which involves performing a script without memorizing, costuming, or staging. They start by focusing on the fundamentals of acting: voice, facial expressions, and basic gestures.

Spring

In the spring, students move on to Drama Club, where they build on their skills by performing for live audiences. Students can participate in the end-of-year performance on stage as actors or behind the scenes as part of the stage, sound, or costume crew.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run inspires students of all abilities to explore their emotions, cultivate empathy, and strengthen their physical health. Girls experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team as a volunteer coach leads them through fun, powerful lessons. At the end of the season, all team members run a 5K together.

Student Council (Grades 6–8)

Middle-school leaders are elected by their peers, and Student Council representatives meet once a month to work on school service projects.

Other Clubs

Students at Burbank are encouraged to start their own clubs based on their interests. To create an after-school club, a faculty member or parent must volunteer as the club’s sponsor. Interested students can talk with their teachers or reach out to the principal for more information.
