School Engagement Council and Family-Teacher Team Meetings
Please consider attending one of our monthly family-led organization (SEC and FTT) meetings. If you enjoyed Fall Fest or any of our other community enrichment nights, your presence and active involvement is critical to the continuation of future events. Our next two meetings will be held virtually on Tuesday, November 14th and Tuesday, January 9th (no meetings in December). The google meeting links are below:
Weather
As the season changes and the weather turns colder, we want to ensure that our students continue to enjoy outdoor recess and stay active during the school day. To make this possible, we kindly request that you send your children to school in appropriate cold weather gear. This includes warm coats, hats, gloves, snow boots and snow pants (when necessary). As long as the temperature stays above ten degrees, students will continue to have outdoor recess. If your family needs assistance in providing these essentials, please contact Ms. Liza. All communication will be kept confidential.
Winter Sports
Students who are interested in participating in 6-8 boys basketball, 6-8 coed volleyball or 4-5 coed basketball should see Ms. Liza for a “Winter Sports Letter and Tryouts Permission Slip”. Permission slips are due no later than November 9th and athletes must attend tryouts to be considered for the team. Tryouts will be held after school on the following dates:
  • 4-5 Coed Basketball – Wednesday, November 15th from 2:35 pm – 4:00 pm.
  • 6-8 Boys Basketball – Monday, November 13th from 2:35 pm – 4:00 pm.
  • 6-8 Coed Volleyball – Tuesday, November 14th from 2:35 pm – 4:00 pm.
Annual Food Drive to Benefit Bay View Community Center
We are excited to announce our annual school-wide food drive, a wonderful opportunity for our students to make a positive impact in our community. From November 10th through November 17th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items to support local families. To make this event even more engaging, we have a special incentive: the classroom that collects the most food will win a delicious treat! This not only encourages teamwork, but also instills a sense of generosity and empathy in our students. We kindly ask for your participation in making this food drive a success! Thank you in advance for your generosity!
PBIS
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. The goal of PBIS is to improve the classroom and school environment with positive behaviors. PBIS defines, teaches, and supports appropriate student behaviors to create a positive school environment.
How does it work?
As a school we have developed expectations for all areas including classroom, hallways, bathrooms, bus, playground, etc. We will teach these behaviors to the students, practice them, and reinforce them. Our school-wide expectations are: Be safe, Be responsible, Be respectful.
Winter Concert
The concert has been rescheduled. Our new date is Tuesday, December 12th at 6 PM. There will be an open dress rehearsal at 12:45 PM. Both will take place at Burdick. K4-5th grade as well as middle school band will be performing.
5th and 6th graders will be receiving permission slips to participate in the Garden District “Winter Wonderland Tree Lighting” ceremony on November 28th. Please return those as quickly as possible so that Mrs. Reinholz can work on rehearsals.
