Staff Spotlight
This week’s staff spotlight is on Ms. Mueller, our dedicated 7th and 8th Grade Special Education teacher at Burdick School. Beyond her commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs, Ms. Mueller actively contributes to our school community in various ways.
She has taken on the role of coaching middle school volleyball, sharing her passion for the sport with our students. Additionally, Ms. Mueller collaborates closely with the Family-Teacher Team, working to strengthen the partnership between educators and families. She also hosts family game nights, fostering a sense of community and providing fun, engaging opportunities for students and their families to connect. We asked Ms. Mueller a few fun questions to get to know her better. Here’s what she had to say:
1. How long have you worked at Burdick?
This is my 27th year in MPS and I have been lucky enough to work at Burdick for 22 of those years. 12 of those years have been in middle school which has been my favorite position.
2. What was your favorite school subject when you were a kid, and do you still love it today?
As a kid, I loved the math and science areas. I was strongest in math in elementary. In high school, I found biology and chemistry which I found fun and super interesting. I had some great teachers growing up in Sheboygan.
For fun I love playing games with friends, being outdoors and on the water. My personal goal is to visit every national park in the U.S. It will take me a while, but I’m ready for the adventure. Of course my pup, Macy, joins me in almost all of my escapades.
3. If the school had a theme song that played every morning, what song would you choose?
Music can really bring out feelings and emotions in people. The song Titanium by David Guetta and sung by Sia makes me feel powerful every time I hear it. It lifts me up. No matter what people throw at us, we don’t have to fall. Show up, keep going and do the best we can!
4. What’s your favorite school tradition or event, and why is it special to you?
I actually LOVE all the after-school events. I think it’s super important to bring families together in school. I’ve coached volleyball and softball in the past and have been actively involved in our Family / Teacher Team for several years. Some of the events that I have loved the most include the middle school dances, our Harvest Fest and the game/potluck nights. Hanging out with the students and their families in a fun atmosphere makes me appreciate our Burdick Family more.
Thank you, Ms. Mueller, for all that you do to make Burdick School a supportive and enriching environment for our students and families.
Family Volunteers Needed
Burdick is seeking dedicated volunteers in the following areas:
Burdick Care Closet
We’re happy to announce the launch of the Burdick Care Closet—a special resource designed to provide students in need with essential clothing and other care items. To help make this initiative a success, we are looking for volunteers to assist with organizing and maintaining the closet.
Volunteers can contribute by:
-
Sorting and folding clothing donations
-
Organizing items by size and type
-
Ensuring the closet stays tidy and well-stocked
-
Donating new or gently used plastic bins to store items
-
Helping manage incoming donations
Volunteering for the Burdick Care Closet is a wonderful opportunity to make a positive impact and support students within our community.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is almost here!
For students, it’s one of the most anticipated events of the school year—but we need volunteers to make it happen. We hope that you can offer your time and talents to help students experience Bookjoy firsthand! And every purchase at the fair directly benefits our school.
