Staff Spotlight
This week, we are proud to spotlight Mrs. Oake, our dedicated K3 para, who brings kindness and patience to Burdick each day. Beyond her commitment to supporting our youngest learners, Mrs. Oake is also a United States Army veteran. Her service to our country and her continued dedication to our school make her an incredible role model for students and staff alike. We are grateful for Mrs. Oake’s contributions, both in the classroom and in her past service, and are lucky to have her as part of our Burdick family!
  1. How long have you worked at Burdick?  Two actual years, but three school years
  2. What was your favorite school subject when you were a kid, and do you still love it today?  PhyEd was my favorite subject in school, in fact, it’s where I learned how to do the Electric Slide 🙂 and yes, I still do love it today.
  3. If the school had a theme song that played every morning, what song would you choose?  “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan
  4. What’s your favorite school tradition or event, and why is it special to you?  I love Fall Fest.  I love the energy of the event, the creative costumes that our students come up with and of course, the haunted cafeteria!
Honoring Our Veterans
In honor of Veterans Day, we invite Burdick families to share photos of a veteran family member or friend to be featured on our “Honor Our Veterans” bulletin board. This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the brave individuals in our community who have served. Please send a photo and a brief description of their service to be displayed as part of our tribute. Thank you for helping us honor those who have dedicated themselves to protecting our country!
School Engagement Council Meeting
Our monthly SEC meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, November 12 at 6:30 p.m. Check out the agenda to see what we will be discussing. Join the meeting by clicking the link below:

Burdick Food Drive
We are excited to kick off our annual food drive to benefit the Bay View Community Center! This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and families to come together and support our community members in need, especially as the holiday season approaches. Beginning November 18 – November 22, students can bring in non-perishable food items, which will be collected in their classrooms. As a special bonus, the classroom with the most items collected will win a prize.
The Bayview Community Center is especially in need of the following items:
  • Jam/Jelly
  • Cereal
  • Pasta and pasta sauce
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Canned chicken/tuna
  • Individually wrapped, single serving snacks (granola bars, applesauce cups, fruit snacks, crackers, etc…)
  • Toilet paper
  • Dish soap
  • Laundry detergent
  • Sugar
  • Flour
  • Boxed cake/brownie mix
They have also asked that we limit the ramen noodle donations (Cough…Mrs. Contreras’ class…cough 😆)
Thank you for helping us spread kindness and compassion throughout our community. Let’s make this year’s food drive a success!

New Morning Arrival Procedure
Beginning October 28th Burdick began to implement our new morning entry procedures. Students are now entering the gym each morning at 7:10 AM. Students will enter the building via door 1 or door 4 each morning and will either go to breakfast or sit in the gym in their class line which is identified by the classroom numbers on the walls.
We appreciate your attention to the new procedure and don’t forget to drive north on Griffin! If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please contact Mr. Emmling.
