Staff Spotlight
Meet “Touchdown” a.k.a. Mr. Awesome a.k.a. Mr. Maloney, Burdick’s enthusiastic and dedicated gym teacher! When he’s not inspiring students to stay active and healthy, you can find him cheering passionately for his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings. Outside of the gym, Mr. Maloney channels his love for sports into coaching football and wrestling, helping young athletes develop their skills, discipline, and teamwork. His energy, commitment, and love for all things sports make him a valued member of the Burdick community. Thank you, Mr. Maloney, for keeping Burdick on the move! 🏈💪

How long have you worked at Burdick? This is my 2nd year teaching at Burdick.
-
What was your favorite school subject when you were a kid, and do you still love it today? My favorite school subject when I was a kid was….surprise….Gym! I love being active and competing. I also still love it today by teaching it! I incorporate all of the social-responsible skills in class, like sportsmanship, communication, problem-solving, cooperation, being respectful, and teamwork. Throughout the school year, I see positive changes in students when focusing on these important life skills.
-
If the school had a theme song that played every morning, what song would you choose? My theme song would be Don’t Stop Believing, by Journey. It’s positive and gets me fired up!
-
What’s your favorite school tradition or event, and why is it special to you? My favorite school event is definitely the March Madness 2-Ball Basketball Tournament that I hold each March for middle school students and staff. Students pair up, pick a college team name, and compete in an “Around-the-World” style shooting competition. It’s special because an enormous amount of sportsmanship, cheering and fun is displayed.
