A.E. Burdick School offers engaging academic and enrichment programs—from STEM-focused projects like Future City to hands-on experiences with the Milwaukee County Zoo—that help students grow as thinkers, leaders, and collaborators.
Future City
Future City is a hands-on, cross-curricular educational program that brings STEM to life. Participating eighth graders work together to design a futuristic city with innovative solutions to some of today’s sustainability issues.
Junior Achievement of Wisconsin
The Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership, and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money, and more.
Milwaukee County Zoo Animal Ambassadors
This program helps second, third, and fourth graders develop a deep understanding of the relationship between humans, animals, and our environment. Students learn through classroom lessons, Milwaukee County Zoo field trips, and conversations with zoo educators (animal experts). The program ends with a celebration of conservation for new “Animal Ambassadors.”
Ropes and Challenges Program
Since 1995, the MPS Ropes and Challenges Program has supported more than 60,000 students in developing social and emotional skills. Through outdoor group activities involving both high and low elements, MPS students strengthen their teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The course is located in Potter’s Forest and is uniquely designed to be accessible to students with a variety of special needs.
Traveling Music Program
Students in middle school can participate in band, banda, brass, drumline, and woodwinds during weekly small-group music lessons.
