March 11, 2025 | News

Summer is right around the corner, which means it’s time for families to start planning fun summer activities! Milwaukee Public Schools is again offering Summer Academy, and registration is open now. Summer Academy provides Milwaukee youth with exciting adventures, activities, and classes to inspire learning. Summer classes are available for students in K5 through grade 12 and will take place July 7 through 31 at select schools around the city.

Summer Academy helps children stay sharp and retain skills over the summer so they can start strong in fall. In Summer Academy, students can learn art, music, social studies, STEM, early reading skills, mathematics, world cultures, and more! Some sites offer Extended School Year (ESY) for children with special education needs, Montessori, bilingual, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Breakfast and lunch are provided, and afternoon childcare and recreation programs are available through Milwaukee Recreation.

Summer Academy also supports students in grades 6 to 12 to help them catch up or get ahead with credit-earning classes and accelerated learning. Offerings vary by site.

Just for fun, Summer Academy also offers classes that encourage creativity and help students develop new skills. Some of the specialty courses for grades 1 through 12 include:

  • Biomedical Science
  • Cake Making
  • Computer Programming
  • Forensic Science
  • Musical Theater
  • Personal Finance
  • Summer Band, Choir, and Orchestra
