| Get Ready for Spirit Week! |
| Next week we’re turning up the joy with Spirit Week at BVM! Each day brings a new theme, a chance to show your creativity, and plenty of school spirit.
Monday, September 15: Minion Monday | Dress up like a minion, and keep your eyes peeled… rumor has it, if enough kids are in yellow, Mr. Mark might just show up as Gru!
Tuesday, September 16: Twinning Tuesday | Partner up and match, or wear your favorite BVM shirt and be my twin for the day (yes, with me, Ms. Ania!).
Wednesday, September 17: Hat Day | From baseball caps to bucket hats, anything goes (hoods are fine too).
Thursday, September 18: Throw Back to Summer | Think sunshine, beaches, and aloha vibes. Let’s bring summer back for a day!
Friday, September 19: Fancy Pants Friday | Dress your best, because it’s also Picture Day!
We can’t wait to see the fun, the laughter, and the big spirit our community always brings. |
| A Warm Welcome from Your New Sports Coordinator |
| Hello BVM Families,
My name is Kate Sommerville, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new Sports Coordinator at Bay View Montessori. I am incredibly excited to take on this new role and work with all of you to provide a positive and enriching sports experience for our athletes. For the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching the BVM cross country and track and field teams, and I’ve seen firsthand the incredible dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and families.
I am deeply passionate about youth sports and believe in the power they have to teach valuable life lessons and build strong communities. I’m excited and humbled to step into this new role, and I am committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every learner feels encouraged to participate and grow.
I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our coaches for their continued commitment and for stepping up to lead our teams. Their hard work is essential to our success, and I look forward to working closely with them.
Is your child playing a fall sport? If so, please take the time to complete the Athlete Forms and pay the $25 Athlete Fee and return to the school office, your coach, or you can email forms back to me. Without this money we can’t make the teams happen. If this is a financial struggle, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or the school.
I also want to introduce an initiative I’m excited about: Play It Forward Swap Events. These events will provide a way for families to donate gently used sports gear, allowing other students to get the equipment they need at no cost. Our next Play It Forward event is next Monday, September 15 2025 from 3:30-4:30pm on the upper campus playground. Stop by, grab some gear, drop off some gear, or just introduce yourself!
Want to stay in the know? Join the BVM Sports! group on the SportsYou app. Many of our coaches (elementary thru HS) use this app to communicate and share information out to families. Directions to join are HERE! No account needed- download the app and use the BVM Sports! group code to join: AARC9JNL
Are you willing to coach? Please reply and let me know! I’m already looking for coaches for our winter (coed basketball, indoor soccer, cheerleading, and coed volleyball) and spring (coed soccer, t-ball, coed softball, and coed tennis). We can only offer sports IF we have the coaches to support the teams.
I am incredibly excited to take on this new role and work with all of you to provide a positive and enriching sports experience for our athletes. I look forward to building our sports community together. If you have questions please email me at bvmsportco@gmail.com. I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible, but PLEASE know that I work full time, coach, and am a parent. I appreciate your patience with me as I learn the ropes and figure out everything that needs to be done.
All the best,
Kate Sommerville

| Coaches have been given rosters and you should be receiving a message from your coach with details specific to your team in the coming week.
The Fall Sports Information link will have updated game days and times, which are changed by MPS Rec frequently, so please check this before heading out to a game. For inclement weather updates, contact the Weather Hotline at 414-475-8068. The hotline is updated by 8 a.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on weekdays when inclement weather is expected. The hotline is available in English and Spanish. |
| Joining the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is one of the most meaningful ways to stay connected to your child’s educational journey. The PTO is not just a committee, at our school it’s a community. We’re here to make sure every family feels welcomed, involved, and supported.
Our first PTO meeting of the year is coming up, and we’d love to see you there! We’ll share how the PTO supports our school community, elect a new Treasurer, dive into some upcoming event planning, and offer an overview of Title I, what it is, why it matters, and how it impacts our school.
The first meeting is Tuesday, September 16th
9:10 am at Lower Campus |
5:45 pm at Upper Campus | Please enter on Potter Street. PTO will be meeting in the Music Room.
You can attend in person or virtually, whatever works best for your schedule. Both meetings will cover the same material.

| We’re off to a strong start, but we’ve still got a ways to go to catch up to Fernwood Montessori and we know our community can do it.
If you haven’t yet filled out the Family Engagement Survey, now’s the time! It’s quick (just five minutes), available in multiple languages, and open until October 31. Your feedback helps shape how we grow and support our children.

| Reminder: September 19th is Picture Day. All students received an order form. Additional copies available in each office. If you are available to assist during picture day, please sign up here. |
| The SEC and DAC Still Need Parent Representatives. |
| Thank you to Lisa Garlie for stepping up to serve on both the School Engagement Council (SEC) and the District Advisory Council (DAC). Your leadership and commitment are deeply appreciated!
We’re still looking for more family voices to join us:
– We still need one more parent to represent our school on the District Advisory Council (DAC)
– And we need several more family members to serve as voting members on the School Engagement Council (SEC)
These are meaningful opportunities to help shape the direction of our school and district and ensure that Montessori values and family perspectives are front and center in the decisions that matter most.
Reminder:
– SEC meets monthly (Sept through Apr) and must be at least 51% family/community members
– DAC meets virtually, first Thursdays (Oct through June), with interpretation available
– Both groups welcome new and returning families, and no prior experience is needed, just your perspective and passion
If you are able to be school representative on one of these councils, please sign up here.
Join the next SEC virtual meeting, Thursday, September 18 at 6pm. Meeting Link: https://meet.google.com/vgh-qxjm-pnn |
