There is no school tomorrow, October 17th and Monday, October 20th. Enjoy the 4 day weekend 🙂

Thank you, PTO!

A huge thank you to our amazing PTO and to everyone who supports PTO events! Your generosity provided delicious dinners for our teachers during conferences and funded gardening tools at both the Upper and Lower Campuses. Our school is so fortunate to have such a dedicated and caring group of parents who give their time and energy to make sure our students enjoy the very best learning environment.

Lockdown Drill Debrief

Today, our students and staff participated in a mandatory lockdown drill as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping everyone at Bay View Montessori safe. These drills are required by the district and help ensure that students and staff know what to do in the unlikely event of an emergency. During the drill, classrooms practiced staying quiet, following teacher directions, and moving calmly to their designated safe areas. We know that safety drills can sometimes feel unsettling for children. Teachers took time afterward to talk with their students in age-appropriate ways, reassuring them that the purpose of these drills is to keep everyone safe and to help adults practice what to do, just like a fire drill. Please feel free to talk with your child at home about the experience. Keeping the tone calm and matter-of-fact helps reinforce that drills are simply one of the many ways we take care of one another at school. Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe and caring environment for all students.

When Your Child is Home Sick

If your child stays home due to illness, you can recapture their attendance by completing the UADI (Unavailable but Actively Doing Instruction) form after they finish their schoolwork. Once you submit the form, our office will update your child’s attendance record accordingly.

Please note: This option is only available for illness-related absences. It does not apply to absences for appointments, funerals, or travel.

Help Keep Our Traditions Alive!

It’s almost time for one of our most beloved traditions: the PTO’s Annual Halloween Dance!

For our new families, here’s what to expect: the first hour of the dance is designed to be young child–friendly, with quieter music and the lights on in the gym so even our youngest ghosts and goblins can feel comfortable joining in the fun. Throughout the evening, families can visit the Library turned quiet craft area, open the entire time, where students can make really wonderful Halloween creations to take home. You’ll also see beautiful decorations made by students from all grade levels.  They’ve been working hard and their creativity truly shines!

Our amazing Student Council even helped create the DJ playlist, ensuring the music will be fun for everyone. We are so lucky to have Steve Carter, BVM parent and professional DJ, who not only keeps the dance floor lively but also hosts games and prize giveaways throughout the night. In the cafeterias, families can enjoy dinner, desserts, snacks, and popsicles, and there’s even a special room for games and prizes for those who prefer a little friendly competition. This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parents and celebrate our amazing community. The students have been buzzing with excitement for weeks, and, if this year is anything like the last few, my own children will still talk about this event for months afterward.

All students and their families are welcome!

Our favorite school traditions thrive because of our amazing community of families and we need your help to make the upcoming dance a success! Even 30 minutes of your time can make a big difference. Consider signing up to lend a hand during the dance, it’s a fun, easy way to be part of the joy.  Do you have a grandparent who loves to bake? This is the perfect chance for them to share a favorite treat and be part of the celebration! We also welcome high school volunteers , especially juniors and seniors looking to earn service hours or strong recommendation letters for college applications. Helping out at school events is a wonderful way to give back, gain experience, and make a lasting impression.

Come Plan with Us

The next planning meeting will be Tuesday, October 21st, 4:30–5:30pm at Upper Campus. We will be doing a walk through of the building and going through decorations, so there will be no virtual option for this meeting.
