| Community Support for a School Family |
| We recently learned that the mother of one of our students was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident that appears to have been a hit-and-run. She is currently in the neuro-ICU, and while her family is grateful for her survival, she faces a long period of recovery and will be unable to work for several months.
Her family has created a Spotfund page to help cover medical expenses, therapy, time away from work, and essential living costs. If you feel moved and are able to contribute, please consider supporting them during this very difficult time. Thank you for holding this family in your thoughts and for the care you show our community every day. |

| Orders that were received by Monday, November 3rd have arrived and are being sent home today. Please check your child’s backpack for the envelope with tickets and gift cards. If you missed the deadline, no worries! Any orders received now and December 5th will arrive before Winter Break – just in time to gift a movie to a loved one. | Halloween Dance: A Boo-tiful Evening at BVM |
| Thank you to everyone who joined us for the annual PTO Halloween Dance last week! It was a fantastic turnout, and seeing so many families dressed up made the night truly magical. The bake sale was an incredible success – we had so many homemade treats that we added extra tables, and you still managed to clear us out! The office smelled wonderfully sweet all afternoon as more and more desserts arrived. Thank you to Melissa Howell for your extra help on Friday!
A huge thank you to our event organizers: Renee Dowdy (our Halloween Dance Chairperson), Becca Marten (her organization and attention to detail is unmatched), Lisa Garlie (who helped with decorations and then even picked up a second round of food!), Mary Blank (our new PTO treasurer and bake sale organizer!), Angie Carter (our photographer), Lia Spaulding (face painting , Kayla Giuli (decorating with an infant strapped to her!), and Codi Alger. And a special shout-out to Steve Carter, who volunteered his time as our DJ and kept the energy high all night long. We are also grateful to Mr. Mark for his steady support of the PTO, to our engineering team for handling cleanup, and to all the parent and student volunteers who helped make the night such a success. A big thanks to all the families that helped make ghosts! We are so grateful to Ms. Nellie and Julia for their assistance in the installation! Finally, an enormous thank you to the family of Oakkar Lwin for their generous $500 donation in honor of Oakkar’s birthday. Happy belated birthday, Oakkar!

| Everyone from the community is invited to visit the “Wish-cycling: Creating Art from Contamination” art gallery at the Central Public Library. The gallery is a partnership between the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works, Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful, Milwaukee Public Schools, and the Milwaukee Public Library to celebrate America Recycles Day and to increase awareness of the impacts of contamination in the recycling stream. During art class this month, Ms. Rhiannon had an educator come to create art with Ms. Angela’s class. Their art creations are on display from November 8th until November 30th. There are also artworks on display of students of all ages at MPS and made almost entirely of items mistakenly tossed in recycling. As you enjoy the art, learn why certain materials are considered contamination, their impacts on the recycling system, and how to properly dispose of them. We hope the gallery provides a unique learning experience that will make us all expert recyclers! |
| Spotlight on the School Engagement Council (SEC) |
| The School Engagement Council (SEC) is a collaborative group of staff, parents, and students that works with Mr. Mark to help guide school decisions. If you’re not big on running events or fundraisers, but you care about programs, priorities, and improvements, this is a group worth knowing about. In recent years, the SEC has been instrumental in securing central funding for our assistant principal position, supporting the expansion to a second campus, and participating in key budget discussions. It’s a behind-the-scenes team that helps keep our school moving forward.

| Holiday Lights Festival Update |
| As part of our participation in the 2025 Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival, we’re excited to offer several ways for families to help bring our “Cosmic Community” tree to life!
Family Craft Night at Upper Campus in the East Cafeteria on Wednesday, November 12 | 4:00 – 6:00 PM Join us right after school to create ornaments for our Cosmic Community tree. Basic materials will be provided, but families are encouraged to bring any additional craft supplies they’d like to use. Tree Decorating at Cathedral Square Park on Saturday, November 15 | 9:00 AM Families are invited to help decorate BVM’s tree with the stellar ornaments our community created. Each participating family will receive a small goody bag from the event organizers. Transportation to and from Cathedral Square Park is the responsibility of families. Spots for both events are limited. Sign up here! Families who would like to create an ornament at home are welcome to drop it off at either office by November 14. Please ensure ornaments are space-themed, weather-resistant, and able to be secured with a zip tie to the outdoor tree.

Madison St. FoodShare Members: November benefits update (as of 11/6/25) As a result of lawsuits brought against the federal government by Wisconsin and other states, municipalities, and nonprofits, the federal government has agreed to pay partial November FoodShare benefits. This means, if you are a FoodShare member, you will receive a reduced amount of November benefits. DHS will work as quickly as possible to get information to our QUEST card vendor so funds can be added to your card. We will let you know as soon as we can when your partial November benefits will be available and how to check your balance. You can continue to use any funds you have on your QUEST cards while you wait for November benefits. Benefits already on your QUEST card will not be removed because of the shutdown.
