Thanksgiving Break: November 24th thru 28th – No School for Students

Attention Lower Campus Families: Please be mindful of the newly posted No Parking signs on Van Beck St.

Please Read: UC Hot Lunch Procedures and Reminders

We’d like to share an important reminder about our school lunch procedures at the Upper Campus. Recently, we’ve experienced some challenges with lunch counts that have led to both food shortages and unnecessary waste. On certain days, especially popular ones like pizza day, students who did not order a hot lunch have been taking one, which causes shortages for later lunch periods. Unfortunately, this often impacts our youngest students (1st thru 3rd grade), who eat last. On other days, some students request a hot lunch in the morning but eat a cold lunch instead, leaving prepared meals to be thrown away.

To help us ensure accurate counts and make sure every student gets the meal they expect, please remember:
– Hot lunch = school-prepared lunch.

– Cold lunch = lunch brought from home.

– If your child is bringing a cold lunch, please remind them not to take a hot lunch.

 – If your child will be arriving late, it is the parent’s responsibility to call the office before 9:30 a.m. to request a hot lunch for that day. Lunches are ordered at 9:30 am, and we cannot guarantee a hot meal if notice is received after that time.

Thank you for your help in keeping our lunch program running smoothly and ensuring that all students are served fairly and that no food goes to waste.

We will meet in the East Cafeteria. Please come in through the side entrance right off the parking lot.  If you arrive after 5:45 pm, please call the phone number posted on the door to let you in.

Share your thoughts at the School Engagement Council (SEC)

The School Engagement Council (SEC) is a collaborative group of staff, parents, and students that works with Mr. Mark to help guide school decisions. If you’re not big on running events or fundraisers, but you care about programs, priorities, and improvements, this is a group worth knowing about. In recent years, the SEC has been instrumental in securing central funding for our assistant principal position, supporting the expansion to a second campus, and participating in key budget discussions. It’s a behind-the-scenes team that helps keep our school moving forward.

The next virtual meeting is November 20th at 5 pm.  Meetings are open to all community members.

Dine and Donate: Sunday Morning Coffee Edition!

Brew-Jas Coffee House

3062 S. 13th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53215
Sunday, November 23 | 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

We’re excited to announce the next Dine & Donate partnership with Brew-Jas Coffee House, a local, family-owned coffee shop right here in Milwaukee! Join us on Sunday, November 23, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for a cozy morning of community and coffee.

Brew-Jas Coffee House is Indigenous and Latino owned by John and Marissa, whose mission is simple: to spread joy and coffee. They’ve graciously offered to donate 10% of all sales during the event to support Bay View Montessori! All of their vendors, from the bakery to the handcrafted items, are local to our neighborhood and Milwaukee. Families can enjoy games for the kids, local treats, art and their famous campfire hot chocolate.

Come sip, shop, and connect with other BVM families while supporting our school and a local small business and perhaps even wish John a happy belated birthday!*

*Owner John will be celebrating his birthday the week before (11/16) with a community food drive.  If you would like to support his birthday mission, bring in 5 items to receive a $5 drink on 11/16.

Community Support for a School Family

We recently learned that the mother of one of our students was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident that appears to have been a hit-and-run. She is currently in the neuro-ICU, and while her family is grateful for her survival, she faces a long period of recovery and will be unable to work for several months.

Her family has created a Spotfund page to help cover medical expenses, therapy, time away from work, and essential living costs. If you feel moved and are able to contribute, please consider supporting them during this very difficult time.

Thank you for holding this family in your thoughts and for the care you show our community every day.
