Activities

Students at Bay View Montessori School can participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and showcases focused on the arts, athletics, community service, and more.
Our teachers, coaches, and parent volunteers support extracurricular activities because these help students explore career interests, develop new talents and skills, and make friends. Students who represent their school out in the community gain leadership experience and strengthen school pride.

Bay View Montessori School extracurricular activities are listed below. Contact our parent coordinator or your student’s classroom teacher to learn more about them.

Clubs

Chess

Students sharpen their critical thinking and strategic skills while learning the classic game of chess. Whether beginner or experienced, 1st through 8th grade students are welcome to join and play in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Weekly meetings happen in the morning and students have the option to participate in weekend tournaments.

Lego Robotics

Founded in 2014, Bay View Montessori’s FIRST LEGO League team made history as the first such team in Milwaukee Public Schools. Students in grades one through six build LEGO-based robots and compete in engineering tournaments. Coached by adults, supported by teammates, and challenged by competitors, FIRST LEGO leaguers apply real-world math and science content and strengthen their critical-thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.

Gamers Unplugged

Led by Upper El teacher Mr. Bryan, Gamers Unplugged invites students to explore the world of tabletop games, from strategy classics to cooperative adventures. The club emphasizes critical thinking, communication, and good sportsmanship in a fun, screen-free environment. It’s the perfect space for students to connect, play, and problem-solve together. With the help of the PTO, Gamers Unplugged hosted it’s first Family Game Night in 2025.  The next one is already planned for January 2026.

Crochet Club

In Crochet Club, students learn the basics of crochet and work on fun, hands-on projects like bookmarks, bracelets, and small plushies. Lead by the beloved Ms. Donna, the club encourages patience, focus, and artistic expression in a calm, social setting. No prior experience is required. Students are required to provide their own materials.

Pokémon Club

Started in 2025, thanks to one parent’s incredibly generous donation of thousands of cards and half a dozen board games, Pokémon enthusiasts come together to battle, and explore the world of Pokémon through games and storytelling. The club fosters creativity, teamwork, and respectful play. No experience or materials needed. Students will make a deck to use from the donated cards.

Since 2001, Futura Language Professionals has been a pioneer in Spanish enrichment programming. Located directly at your child’s school immediately before or after the traditional school day, Futura classes provide an unparalleled convenient and affordable way to get a jump start on your child’s language education in a fun, age-appropriate manner.

Girls on the Run

Third through eighth graders enjoy fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.

Scouting America (SA)

MPS students participating in SA, formerly Boy Scouts of America, belong to the youth development organization’s Three Harbors Council, which delivers Scouting programs to 5,000 youth in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties. Locally and nationally, the SA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA)

Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is a student-led club for 4th through 8th grade students.  GSA is a safe place for students to socialize, receive support, learn more about topics they are interested in, and engage in activism.  Highlights from previous years have included marching in Milwaukee’s Pride Parade, going roller skating with students from other MPS GSA clubs, attending a GSA leadership summit, and participating in the Day of Silence.  Everyone is welcome!

Black and Latino Male Achievement Buddies (BLMA Buddies)

Black and Latino Male Achievement Buddies (BLMA Buddies) is a club for 4th through 6th grade male students of color to promote Black and Latino male mentorship, develop young Black and Latino male leaders, practice empowerment and self-love, and target topics such as toxic masculinity.  Students meet monthly with a small group of other Black and Latino young men to discuss and participate in activities regarding seven guiding principles: leadership development, brotherhood, community, love, cultural dignity, academic success, and self-care.
