Helping your child succeed at Bay View Montessori School includes practices and priorities like:

Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day

9:00 a.m. at lower campus

9:10 a.m. at upper campus

Call the school attendance line when your child will be absent: (414) 935-0700. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.

Ensure that your child gets at least nine hours of sleep every night.

Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.

Check your child’s bookbag every day for homework or important messages.

At home, have a quiet time and place for your child to read and study.

Read with your child every day.

Volunteer in the classroom.

Ask how you can join our field trips.

Montessori at Home

Your student(s) will complete most of their assignments and projects during the school day, working with special learning tools and stations that are part of every well-stocked Montessori classroom.

You can be a partner in your child’s Montessori education by nurturing their natural independence, creativity, and desire to help right at home. Familiarize yourself with simple Montessori-at-home practices. Your child’s school library or parent resource center may have other Montessori parenting resources that you can explore.

Learning at Home

At home, your child can easily access the same online programs they use in class. Have your student log in through Clever to find learning programs like Smarty Ants, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, and others.

To access additional homework resources for your student, find out if your child’s classroom teacher uses Google Classroom or Seesaw as their preferred interactive learning platform.

Communicating with Your Child’s Teacher

Stay in touch with your child’s teacher and you’ll be up to date on your child’s academic goals and accomplishments. Students feel extra motivated when they see teachers and parents working as a team to reinforce high expectations and positive learning strategies. Here are some tips for building a strong parent-teacher relationship to support your child.

Collect current school/teacher contact information at the beginning of each school year. You can gather this information from teacher handouts, during open-house events or visit our staff directory.

Attend parent-teacher conferences in person or virtually. Students are proud to “show off” their school and feel supported when teachers and caregivers make time to meet at a conference or school event.

If a scheduled conference time does not work for you, contact the teacher to choose a different time. Or schedule a virtual appointment or phone call with the teacher. Ask if your child should attend.

Send your child to school with a bookbag every day and check the bookbag when they come home at night. Important paperwork travels from school to your home – and back again – in your child’s bookbag: permission slips, classroom updates, and school calendars.

Use digital communication apps like ClassDojo or Class Messenger. Teachers and coaches use these apps to communicate easily and directly with families. Your child’s teacher should provide you with log-in information at the beginning of the school year or sports season.

Volunteer for a field trip or family event at school. Bay View Montessori School needs volunteers during and after school. Ask a teacher or school staff member how you can get involved in a way that fits your schedule. Learn more about volunteering with MPS.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Families are our most valuable partners at Bay View Montessori School. Parents are the first educators in a child’s life, teaching daily tasks and encouraging an interest in learning long before a child attends school. Parental support is needed throughout a child’s educational career. By setting a positive example at home, students receive the extra motivation to pursue high levels of achievement.

Because parents are such a vital element of a successful education, every effort is made to include the input of families when developing educational plans and policies for students. By attending PTO or School Engagement Council meetings, parents have the opportunity to voice their opinions and offer suggestions.

Through effective communication and shared knowledge, staff and family members work together to create an environment for children that is conducive to learning and beneficial to their emotional, mental, social and physical well-being. At Bay View Montessori School, we have many volunteer opportunities for families to participate in activities to enrich children’s learning and discovery.

Bay View Montessori School offers families a neighborhood-based school with a Montessori focus. Our staff recognizes the importance of building a strong network among the school, the family and the larger Milwaukee community in order to create a successful educational environment for our children.

At Bay View Montessori, we are committed to a full partnership with families and the community in the education of our children. To that end, we will:

Hold annual September and March Open House events where information about our educational program is shared with parents.

Provide a monthly calendar of events and a newsletter, providing information for the involvement of our families.

Promote involvement in a School Engagement Council and Parent Teacher Organization that meets at a time to accommodate the schedules of families and staff members.

Gather information related to school needs as well as the implementations and evaluation of the school educational plan.

Regularly provide information about curriculum, assessments and individual student progress.

Provide ongoing assistance to families and staff members to improve our ability to support each other in the education of our children.

Involve parents in the development and implementations of plans to inclusively address both Special Education and regular education needs of students.

Facilitate family participation by addressing barriers (such as child care needs) and challenges (such as transportation) to family involvement.

Provide a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for families in our school and classrooms.

Staff strives to build upon the basic foundation and values instilled in young learners before they attend school. Families are essential to a child’s success both inside and outside the classroom. For this reason, Bay View Montessori School provides numerous opportunities for parents to be active in their child’s education. A variety of meetings, events and activities are held during the year to keep parents and guardians involved.

Volunteering

Parents are encouraged to volunteer in classrooms or in the school office in order to help the Bay View Montessori staff complete tasks more efficiently or to simply offer an extra set of hands. We have many events for which we need families to volunteer in order to make them a success. In addition, adult chaperones are needed for field trips. We appreciate and are extremely thankful for the wonderful parents and grandparents who offer generous donations of time and energy.

School Activities

Bay View Montessori holds a variety of family friendly events that give parents and students a chance to have fun and learn together. Each year, the PTO and Fund organize the following activities for families:

Back to School picnic

Annual school Auction

Children’s Open House and Ice Cream Social

Annual children's craft fair

["post-14","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
