Clarke Street administrators, teachers, and staff are licensed and experienced professionals.<\/p>\n

Together, they educate 200 students from K4 to eighth grade. Their shared goal: To equip all Clarke Street students with the skills and strategies necessary to succeed in high school and career, college, and community.<\/p>\n

Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/h2>\n

The Milwaukee Public Schools Ambitious Instruction Plan<\/a> recognizes and celebrates that our students come from many cultures and backgrounds. This plan focuses on high-quality, culturally appropriate teaching and learning. Our goal is to ensure that every student develops reading, writing, and math skills in ways that are meaningful to their individual lives and experiences. Our staff works together to understand each learner and find appropriate ways to assess and improve their progress. We then make sure that students can apply what they have learned in productive ways in school and in their community.<\/p>\n

Common Core State Standards<\/h2>\n

The curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools is based on Common Core State Standards<\/a>. These standards were developed with teachers, school administrators, and experts to prepare all children for college and the workforce.<\/p>\n

Math<\/h3>\n

Every classroom and learning space at Clarke Street \u2013 from gymnasium to technology lab \u2013 is designed for curious and creative young minds. Students learn best when they are engaged and can apply their new knowledge and skills to the world around them. For the Clarke Street scholar, this means learning units of measurement in a brightly lit classroom and during cooking class in our new home economics lab (coming in 2024). Class sizes are small from K4 to third grade. Teachers provide individualized attention as students learn, practice, and apply critical math skills.<\/p>\n

Reading\/Language Arts<\/h3>\n

Teachers, parents, and volunteers share a school-wide commitment to helping students achieve reading proficiency by the end of third grade. From classroom lessons to tutoring sessions, reading is an all-day, every day activity at Clarke Street. Class sizes are small from K4 to third grade. Teachers provide individualized attention as students learn, practice, and apply critical literacy skills.<\/p>\n

Anything this important should also be fun! The school has a favorite book, \u201cI Am Enough.\u201d Partners at SPARK Early Literacy coordinate monthly reading celebrations for students and their families. SPARK tutors even work weekends and make home visits.<\/p>\n

Special Education<\/h2>\n

MPS serves all children with disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, hearing, learning, physical, speech, and vision disabilities. The school\u2019s special education teachers, regular education teachers, school social worker, school psychologist, school support teacher, and administration work together to meet students\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n
