At Craig Montessori School, parents and caregivers learn alongside their children. Our school offers workshops, events, and resources so caregivers understand what it means to be a Montessori learner, and how to best support their child’s personal and academic growth during the K3-8 years.
Reach out to our Parent Coordinator, Courtney Hicks, at winterc@milwaukee.k12.wi.us or contact the Parent Resource Center by calling the main office, (414) 393-4200, to learn more about Craig Montessori School resources, routines, and expectations for students and families, including:
Book Fairs
Held twice yearly to promote a love for literacy and raise funds for Craig Montessori School, our book fairs are popular among readers of all ages. Ask about using your child’s reading assessments to select books and genres that take their reading to the next level.
Learning About Montessori Literacy
Visit the Literacy Nest for free tips and news about supporting your Montessori student’s literacy journey. This site’s subscription-based literacy coaching and classes are completely optional. To learn about free literacy tutoring at Craig Montessori School, please contact your child’s classroom guide or our parent coordinator.
Montessori Education Night
Offered twice yearly, this program explains the basics and benefits of a Montessori education.
Parent Teacher Organization
The Parent Teacher Organization meets monthly to discuss schoolwide events, fundraisers and other volunteer opportunities.
School Engagement Council
The School Engagement Council meets monthly to examine and advise on matters related to our school’s climate, culture, and student achievement.
Campus Parent Portal
Milwaukee Public Schools and Craig Montessori School use Campus Parent Portal. Families who know the portal use it daily to see their child’s schedule, grades, assignments, and records from immunizations to transportation routes. Staff in the Craig Montessori School Family Resource Center or main office can help caregivers access their free Campus Parent Portal account.
Communications
We use SchoolMessenger and other communication apps, electronic newsletters, and email to keep our Montessori guides (classroom teachers) and families connected, and to share news and updates about the wider Craig Montessori School environment.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
A framework used in schools across Milwaukee and the country to help students and staff create shared priorities and expectations for building safe, successful learning communities, PBIS at Craig means:
- Be safe.
- Be respectful.
- Be responsible.
- Be productive.
Hallway behavior, high attendance rates, classroom rewards, and individual student recognition are all part of Craig’s customized PBIS framework. Ask your child about our HERO program to reach 95 percent daily attendance.
