Progress reports are sent home to parents and guardians. Conferences are held regularly to share each student\u2019s progress. Teachers and staff are ready to help our families with extra meetings or reports. We would love to see you join your child at school events and activities.<\/p>\n<h2>Meet Our Parent Coordinator<\/h2>\n<p>Katherine Valentyn is the parent coordinator at Anna F. Doerfler School. The coordinator helps parents and guardians find information about our school and MPS. We believe that students do better socially and in the classroom when families take an active role in their child\u2019s education.<\/p>\n<p>We offer events and workshops geared toward families\u2019 interests and needs. A family newsletter details school events, community events, and information about the school\u2019s Learning Team and the School Engagement Council (SEC). Please keep the office updated with current phone numbers and addresses so we can continue to provide you with all the information you need.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to sign up for important updates from our Parent Coordinator Remind Group right on your phone.<\/p>\n<p>On a smartphone, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.remind.com\/join\/3014doer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up for push notifications<\/a>. Follow the instructions at the link to download the app, and sign up for Remind.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not have a smartphone, get text notifications by texting @3014doer to the number 81010 or to (484) 241-4261.<\/p>\n<p>Our Parent Center is in Room 10, Lower Level. You can reach us at (414) 902-9540.<\/p>\n<h2>Support Your Student<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Family participation is highly encouraged at Doerfler School.<br \/>\n<\/strong>Family involvement leads to better grades, better attendance, improved test scores, higher self-esteem, and better behavior for children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can help your child succeed in school!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day (7:25 a.m.).<\/li>\n<li>Call the Doerfler attendance line when your child will be absent, at (414) 902-9560. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that your child gets at least 9 hours of sleep every night.<\/li>\n<li>Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.<\/li>\n<li>Check your child\u2019s bookbag every day for homework or important messages.<\/li>\n<li>Help your child with homework.<\/li>\n<li>Read with your child every day.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer in the classroom.<\/li>\n<li>Ask how you can join our field trips.<\/li>\n<li>Attend the School Engagement Council (SEC) monthly meetings or the Family Leadership Organization (FLO) monthly meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Sign up to receive messages from the district and from Doerfler School by texting the letter \u201cY\u201d to 67587.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Helping Your Child with Homework<\/h2>\n<p>Your child\u2019s teacher is happy to talk with you about the type of homework that is right for your child.<\/p>\n<p>At home, have a quiet time and place for homework. Your child has access at home to the same online programs they use in class. Have your student log in through\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/clever.com\/in\/milwaukee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clever\u202f<\/a>to find the programs they use, including Smarty Ants, Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos, Sora, Discovery Education, and others.<\/p>\n<h2>Talk About Your Child\u2019s Progress with Their Teachers<\/h2>\n<p>Attending parent-teacher conferences shows your child how much you support them. If your child\u2019s scheduled conference time does not work for you, contact the teacher to choose a time to visit your student\u2019s classroom, talk about their progress, and share ways to help your child learn.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to check your student\u2019s bookbag every day for homework and important school messages. The staff sends home reports and schedules conferences regularly to monitor and ensure each student\u2019s progress. If you would like more conferences, meetings or reports, please tell your child\u2019s teacher.<\/p>\n<h2>Volunteer<\/h2>\n<p>Doerfler is committed to involving families in our school. Parents and guardians are encouraged to find out how to assist teachers in their classrooms and at our events and outings. Doerfler Elementary School. Please make sure that your child(ren) are at school, on time, every day. The school day starts at 7:25 a.m. and ends at 2:25 p.m. If your child(ren) will be absent, please make sure to let the office know by calling (414) 902-9500. Thank you for supporting your child(ren)\u2019s attendance at school!\n<h2>Assist Your Child with Homework<\/h2>\nYour child\u2019s teacher will communicate with you about the type of homework that is appropriate for your child. Be sure to provide a quiet time and place for homework.\n<h2>Help Your Child Improve Their Scores<\/h2>\nPrograms used in the classroom can be utilized by your child at home to help them improve academically. Have your student login through <a href=\"https:\/\/clever.com\/in\/milwaukee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clever<\/a> to find all programs they can access including Smarty Ants, My Path, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, etc.\n<h2>Discuss Your Child\u2019s Progress with Their Teachers<\/h2>\nAttend parent\/teacher conferences, or arrange for a special conference with your child\u2019s teacher. If time does not permit, a phone call or a brief note is appreciated.\n\nFamilies play a vital role in education. Parents are encouraged to work with teachers to decide on an appropriate time to visit their child\u2019s classroom, discuss student progress and share ways to increase learning. Reports are sent home to parents and conferences are scheduled regularly to assess each student\u2019s progress. Staff will honor parental requests for additional conferences, meetings or reports at any time.\n<h2>Classroom Assistance\/Volunteering<\/h2>\nAnna F. Doerfler Elementary School understands the connection between family support and student success; therefore, we are committed to involving families in their child\u2019s education. Parents and guardians are encouraged to come to  Doerfler and assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to combine support from home with support at school, making for positive results.\n\nWe have very active parent volunteers. We are always looking for more caring, motivated individuals to work with our students.
