Facilities

Renovations and upgrades at Andrew S. Douglas Middle School are transforming our building and the student experience.

By building STEM technology and health and wellness resources into our campus, students are empowered to grow as independent learners and caring citizens.

Cafeteria

Our renovated cafeteria includes fresh paint, round tables, and restaurant booths. This new layout favors quiet conversation and volume control as students dine and discuss in smaller groups.

Calming Spaces

Calming practices and self-care strategies are fixtures of our social and emotional learning program. Tulia Chumba — a Swahili phrase meaning “calm down” — is our students’ calming space. They can quietly regulate and reflect on their emotions, and even practice emotional regulation strategies like journaling or meditating before returning to class or home. There is a dedicated calming space for Douglas staff, as well.

Esports Lounge

Douglas gamers can compete in the Rocket League, affiliated with the Electronic Gaming Foundation’s Youth Esports League (EGFY). Students prepare for competition in our new-in-2024 esports lounge, featuring eight gaming stations, two consoles, and rules and regulations.

Fitness Facilities for All

Our main gymnasium is home to our physical education program and features new athletics equipment, lighting, bleachers, and flooring. A small auxiliary gym doubles as a student fitness center. There is a dedicated fitness center for Douglas staff, as well.

GE Innovation Lab

In this tech-equipped space, students learn and design, play and invent utilizing analytical skills, teamwork, and tools to solve creative challenges. A dedicated STEM teacher trains and supervises students as they work with laser and vinyl cutters, 3D printers, CNC routers, graphic design software, soldering tools, multiple types of saws, and sanders.

Library Media Center

Research tells us school library programs positively impact student outcomes by teaching 21st-century and critical thinking skills and fostering independence among learners. Our Library Media Center features comfortable seating, group workstations, and computers. The main attraction is our collection of thousands of titles and periodicals.

Outdoor Classroom

Our new outdoor classroom can be used for STEM lessons, mindfulness moments in nature, and other activities.

PBIS Room and School Store

Students get rewarded and stay engaged in learning and community-building in the Douglas Middle School PBIS Room. Stocked with board games, arts and crafts supplies, manipulatives, and more, this brightly lit resource room features flexible bistro- and lounge-style seating and other amenities.

Students earn HERO points when they follow our PBIS framework. Points can be redeemed for Douglas gear and supplies, treats, and more at our school store.
