Thank you from the Fernwood Fund!

The Fernwood Fund would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that attended Fernwood Flights on Sunday. The huge turnout (and perfect weather) made the event so much fun. Not only was attendance up this year, but so was fundraising. We raised over $25K that goes right back into the school, and we couldn’t be happier. Another big thank you to all of our donors and sponsors who are what drives this event and to The Sugar Maple who has been so generous with their space over the years. What a great way to wrap up the year. Have a great summer and see you in the Fall!

SUMMER RUNNING PROGRAM

ATTENTION ALL INCOMING 6-8th GRADERS

If you’re interested in summer running, please join us on Monday evenings at Humboldt Park, just south of the tennis courts. This program is designed to help the athletes develop a base before the season starts.

Details: 

• We will meet every Monday June 24th through August 19th, from 5:45-6:45p.

• Permission slips will be available at each practice (only need to fill ONE out for all running dates). 

• Show up when you are able to!

• We ask that athletes have a good quality pair of running shoes (if you go to Performance Running Store or Rodiez’s Running Store, your child will get a team discount and be fitted by a professional) and a water bottle filled with water. Dress for the weather. A wristwatch of some sort is helpful. 

• We will run in all weather, except lighting. If lighting is forecasted, practice will be cancelled.

CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM FALL 2024

ATTENTION ALL INCOMING 6-8th GRADERS

The Cross Country season begins on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
New this year: Registration will be the WEEK BEFORE school starts (August 27-30)! Last day to register will be Friday, August 30th.
We will contact all caregivers via email on Monday, August 19th with specifics/details. No need to stress, we will help make this work out for everyone, even those who might be travelling that week. Please make sure your email address is updated with the office. Please email the coaches at fernwoodrunning@outlook.com with any questions.

Welcome back to Fernwood (as employees, they never left us as family/community members) to Jamie Krutsch who will be our new special education teacher and Kim Milligan who will be teaching Upper Elementary!

Fernwood SEC Members Wanted

Fernwood Montessori is looking for members for our School Engagement Council for the 2024-25 school year.   

We will meet virtually on the last Thursday of the month at 5:00pm with the exception of January and May which will be in person.  Any parent can come to these meetings but we also have “official” members.

Construction Happening Soon-KK Ave Impacted

Please note that some construction will be happening on our West Playground right along KK Ave soon.  If parents drop off on KK Ave, we ask that you please access the building in a different way while construction is happening.  We don’t have an exact date for the start of the project but it will be happening in the coming weeks.

Run Back to School Registration now Open!

Fernwood took first place in last year’s annual Run Back to School 5K run/1.5 mile walk by having the most registered participants in the district!  Let’s do it again and win the $1,000 grant!  Please see details on the attached flyer, including how to register your family.  Be sure to list ‘Fernwood’ as your participating school.  Any questions, please contact Fernwood’s team captain, Lisa McLure, at samperld@milwaukee.k12.wi.us.

Our School is Cool!
