Thanks PTO!

The PTO recently provided Room 253 with funds to purchase a subscription to the magazine, The Week Junior to help the students learn about the upcoming election.  Ms. Kelsey, the self-appointed poet laureate of Fernwood (love you, Ms. Kelsey!), wrote a little thank you poem and provided a silly picture of the learning in action!

The generosity from PTO

Is the complete opposite of low

We are so grateful for what they do

Without them, we’d have no clue

A magazine subscription is what we used our funds for

The Week Junior is arriving to our door

We learn about current events both big and small

Events that affect sometimes one and sometimes all

We get excited when they arrive

It makes us want to do the hand jive (which we have been practicing)

Thank you PTO for the money to buy our class The Week Junior! Love, Ms. Kelsey and Room 253

Our School is Cool!

There’s always something COOL going on at Fernwood!  This week something COOL and timely was happening!  Students in Ms. Sangita and Ms. Milligan’s rooms worked on a voting mural in conjunction with the MPS Social Studies department.  The students designed the artwork and slogan, penciled in the image, outlined the image in paint, and filled in the entire canvas.  Amazing!  This was truly a group effort with many students from both classes participating!  This is a great example of how Montessori work is child-led (they did it all!) and integrates many topics at once (art, design, project management, civics, social justice, marketing, etc).  Thanks to our COOL PTO for providing the funds to buy supplies for the mural!

There are pictures below of the mural in process and of the mural in its final display place.  Take a look above the Falling Heath Doors to see the real thing!  Thanks to Room 32 and Room 37 for the reminder that the COOLEST thing about democracy is that your vote does matter….❤️🤍💙
