Activities

Students at Fernwood Montessori School can participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, and showcases focused on the arts, athletics, community service, and more.

Our teachers, coaches, and parent volunteers support extracurricular activities because these help students explore career interests, develop new talents and skills, and make friends. Students who represent their school out in the community gain leadership experience and strengthen school pride.

Fernwood Montessori School extracurricular activities are listed below. Contact our parent coordinator or your student’s classroom teacher to learn more about them.

Character Kids (Theatre)

Character Kids brings quality theatre education to Fernwood Montessori. During fun-filled after-school classes, students learn the basics of theatre while rehearsing songs and scenes from popular Broadway shows. Classes typically meet one hour per week for eight weeks.

Choir

First through third graders are invited to participate in choir to enhance their understanding of rhythm, beat, and a variety of vocal strategies. Through fun vocal exercises and through learning exciting choral repertoire, students learn about their voices and prepare to share them with the world.

Futura Spanish

Since 2001, Futura Language Professionals has been a pioneer in Spanish enrichment programming. Located directly at your child’s school immediately before or after the traditional school day, our classes provide an unparalleled convenient and affordable way to get a jump start on your child’s language education in a fun, age-appropriate manner.

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast

Through enriching experiences like extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardship, girls grow courageous and strong. Fernwood is home to Troop 10529.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.

Math Counts

This national nonprofit and its Fernwood-school chapter believes in making learning math fun, and focuses on the middle-school years as a critical time to help students overcome a fear of math. Math Counts programs build problem-solving skills and positive attitudes about math so students embrace challenges and expand their academic and career opportunities in the future.

Newspaper

Adolescent students learn about best practices in photography and practice their writing and interview skills to highlight important school-wide events and history.

Scouting America (SA)

MPS students participating in SA, formerly Boy Scouts of America, belong to the youth development organization’s Three Harbors Council, which delivers Scouting programs to 5,000 youth in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties. Locally and nationally, the SA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

Sewing

In this after-school program, students learn the basics of sewing so they can create their own stuffed animal.
