La Escuela Fratney\u2019s policy discourages the overuse of holiday\/seasons in our curriculum.\u202fInstead, we believe holiday activities can contribute to a multicultural and antiracist perspective.\u202fOur curriculum includes authentic and sensitive experiences that reflect our students and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p>We are not advocating eliminating holidays, or depriving students of the opportunities to celebrate.\u202fOur intention is to think about the many questions that holidays and celebrations pose, and rethink \u201ctraditional\u201d holidays by looking through a multicultural lens.\u202fThe holiday is integrated into the regular curriculum.\u202fLearning is connected to our community and includes developmentally appropriate activities.<\/p>\n<p>Many holidays have religious origins and aspects.\u202fInformation shared is to be accurate and sensitive.\u202fWe recommend that a person knowledgeable about the holiday be asked to inform or share information with staff and students.\u202fIt is important that the information shared is correct, that it dispels stereotypes and generalizations.<\/p>\n<p>In our school community, there may be families who do not celebrate holidays. It is important that we know who they are and respect their perspective and\/or restrictions.\u202fAs needed, we will work with families to make plans that meet their children\u2019s needs and ensure they are not \u201cleft out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We do celebrate with our school.\u202fWe celebrate learning throughout the year, at Theme Presentations, Writing Celebrations, Celebramos el espa\u00f1ol and more.\u202fYou are always welcome to join us.<\/p>\n<p>As a school community, we do not celebrate or dress up for Halloween.\u202fWe have many inclusive spirit days throughout the school year for students to wear La Escuela Fratney t-shirts, specific colors, and other themed days.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that the primary emphasis with holidays should be to \u201ceducate\u201d rather than \u201ccelebrate.\u201d We are proud to be bilingual, multicultural learners!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Holidays at La Escuela Fratney: Educate, then celebrate.We have developed a holiday policy that we feel is respectful to all our families.\u202fSeasons and holidays define and drive the curriculum in many schools.
