Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee provides after-school programming at Gaenslen School. The club\u2019s Community Learning Center (CLC) is a safe and supervised setting where students (K5-8) follow an after-school routine that prioritizes academic enrichment and homework help and makes time for sports, fun with friends, art and other activities. Snack and meals are provided.<\/p>\n
Milwaukee Recreation partners with Gaenslen School for after-school sports for our students, including basketball, volleyball, flag football, and track and field.<\/p>\n
Gaenslen students enjoy two Urban Ecology Center (UEC) field trips yearly. Located one mile from our school, the UEC maintains a 40-acre outdoor classroom where students explore Wisconsin trees and flowers, search for signs of animal life, and experience the sights and sounds of the nearby Milwaukee River. Fallen logs and tree forts are a \u201cbonus.\u201d Rain or shine, every trip to the UEC is free, outdoors and fully accessible for all students and parent chaperones. Everyone loves the field trip finale: a visit to the center\u2019s indoor animal sanctuary.<\/p>\n
Playgrounds across Milwaukee Public Schools \u2013 including new and accessible outdoor classrooms, rec spaces, and gardens at Gaenslen \u2013 are greener and healthier thanks to our partnership with Reflo. The environmental nonprofit integrates environmental education, water management and child\u2019s play into their playground design, construction and renovation processes. Gaenslen students even tour Reflo\u2019s facility to learn about the world\u2019s most valuable resource on the Hidden Water Story Tour.<\/p>\n
Learning to grow healthy food is an environmental\/educational journey that fuels young minds and bodies. Gaenslen School is honored to be one of the first MPS communities to partner with Fork Farms on this important mission. Fork Farms\u2019 educators provide gardening guidance that keeps Gaenslen’s gardens green and growing.<\/p>\n
Wisconsin Conservatory of Music offers music lessons and programming to select Gaenslen students.<\/p>\n
