Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR)
The AGR program provides intensive academic and instructional support to Wisconsin schools working to close the achievement gap between kindergarten through third-grade students from low-income backgrounds and students in the same grade and subject statewide. Milwaukee Public Schools with AGR funding implement key strategies in their kindergarten through third-grade classrooms:
- Class sizes of 18:1 or 30:2
- One−to−one tutoring provided by a licensed teacher
- Instructional coaching for teachers provided by a licensed teacher
Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program
Twice a week, students at 83 schools district-wide receive a healthy snack and a nutrition lesson through this federally funded program. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program supports community and student health by increasing the volume and variety of fruits and vegetables that Milwaukee school children eat.
Junior Achievement
We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money and more. Lessons are organized according to the Milwaukee Public Schools Social Studies curriculum and are implemented in K5 classrooms, continuing through eighth grade.
Playworks Wisconsin
In 2023, Playworks Wisconsin ensured more than 23,000 children in 64 elementary schools and youth serving organizations across Wisconsin — including Grantosa Drive School — experienced safe and healthy play, including over 700 educators and youth professionals trained statewide. Over 1,000 Wisconsin kids serve as Junior Coach student leaders on the playground by leading games and modeling positive sporting behavior for their peers.
STARBASE Wisconsin
STARBASE Wisconsin is an interactive academic program that helps youth increase their knowledge in STEM. Fifth grade students are taken on a five-week odyssey into the exciting world of the sciences though hands-on activities and experiments, technology projects, and interaction with professionals in STEM fields. The US Department of Defense has funded STARBASE programs around the country for over 20 years. As the largest employer of civilian and military scientists and engineers, the DoD recognizes the importance of inspiring students to pursue STEM fields. STARBASE Wisconsin is located on 51st and Silver Spring Drive, and we are proudly sponsored by the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
