Providing an inspiring, future focused education to all students is something we take seriously at Holmes School. And, we try to make it seriously fun.
As early as K5, students learn to think of themselves — and to think like — engineers in our dedicated Project Lead The Way (PLTW) laboratory for STEM studies: science, technology, engineering, math. We Energies generously sponsors Holmes School’s PLTW program.
Students in all 50 states and 30+ Milwaukee Public Schools explore STEM concepts and the engineering professions through project-based, tech-enabled lessons. Based on national and state STEM standards and taught by our certified educators, Holmes School’s Project Lead The Way program prepares students for advanced studies in more than a dozen high school PLTW labs in MPS.
PLTW at Holmes
Students develop their technological literacy as they practice problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Taught by Holmes School’s certified educators who follow PLTW best practices:
- K4 through fifth-grade scholars experience the PLTW Launch curriculum. According to program founders, who are STEM educators themselves: PLTW Launch taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering.
- Sixth through eighth-grade scholars experience the PLTW Gateway curriculum. According to program founders, who are STEM educators themselves: PLTW Gateway opens paths that create meaningful futures. It connects students to careers in areas they can, and can’t, imagine.
