Programs

Supporting students’ academic performance, classroom engagement, college and career preparation, and overall well-being are the focus of these evidence-based programs and learning experiences at Oliver Wendell Holmes School.

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin

We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, field trips, and other resources to share lessons on leadership, career preparation, money management, and more. Lessons are organized according to the Milwaukee Public Schools Social Studies curriculum and are implemented in K5 classrooms, continuing through eighth grade.

Project Ready

Sponsored by Greater Milwaukee Urban League, Project Ready prepares African-Americans and other historically underserved youth for college and careers. The program features: impactful local and national partnerships; innovative content; professional development; and targeted events, activities and programs unique to the Urban League Movement.

Greater Milwaukee Urban League’s Project Ready, peer mediation, and tutoring programs welcome Holmes School students in grades six through eight.

Verizon Innovative Learning

Millions of students nationwide lack the access to technology and the skills they need to succeed in the digital world. Since 2012, Verizon Innovative Learning has transformed the learning experience for more than 3 million students by providing schools and districts with the tools they need to thrive in the digital world and bridge the digital divide.

Verizon Innovative Learning works side-by-side with 12 Milwaukee Public Schools, including Holmes School, to get internet-connected devices into the hands of students and to enhance how teachers use technology in the classroom.

Wisconsin Reading Corps

Tutors work one-on-one, in pairs, or small groups with preschool through eighth graders, focusing on each student’s needs. Reading Corps tutors conduct 20-minute sessions, so each student is tutored 100 minutes per week. Student progress is closely monitored as young readers work toward individual learning targets.
