Teachers and staff are happy to help families with extra meetings or reports, and families are encouraged to set up a time to come in, visit their child\u2019s classroom, and meet with their teacher. We would love to see you join your child at school events and activities as well!<\/p>\n<h2>Family Leadership Organization (FLO)<\/h2>\n<p>Monthly meetings of the Family Leadership Organization (FLO) promote family engagement. These meetings are an important way to get involved at Hopkins Lloyd, ensuring that parents and family members can participate in discussion and decision-making that puts our students\u2019 needs first.<\/p>\n<h2>Parent Coordinator<\/h2>\n<p>This role is designed to help parents and guardians find information about our school and MPS. Samantha Wright is the parent coordinator at Hopkins Lloyd. You can contact her at <a href=\"mailto:wrightss@milwaukee.k12.wi.us\">wrightss@milwaukee.k12.wi.us<\/a> or\u00a0(414) 267-0640.<\/p>\n<h2>Student\u00a0Support<\/h2>\n<p>Family involvement in a child\u2019s education is shown to lead to better grades, better attendance, and improved test scores. Children with active parents often have higher self-esteem and better behavior.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can help your child succeed in school!<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day at 7:15 a.m.<\/li>\n<li>Call the school office at (414) 267-0600 when your child will be absent. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that your child gets at least nine hours of sleep every night.<\/li>\n<li>Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.<\/li>\n<li>Check your child\u2019s backpack every day for homework or important messages.<\/li>\n<li>Set aside a quiet space and time for homework. Help your child with assignments.<\/li>\n<li>Read with your child every day.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer in your child&#8217;s classroom.<\/li>\n<li>Ask how you can join our field trips.<\/li>\n<li>Become an active member of our Family Leadership Organization (FLO).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Help Your Child with Homework<\/h2>\n<p><span>Your child\u2019s teacher is happy to talk with you about the type of homework that is right for your child. Call the school office at (414) 267-0600 to find out how to contact your child\u2019s teacher. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>At home, have a quiet time and place for homework. Your child has access at home to the same online programs they use in class. Have your student log in through\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/clever.com\/oauth\/authorize?channel=clever&amp;client_id=4c63c1cf623dce82caac&amp;confirmed=true&amp;district_id=55bfaba35ced2e0100000013&amp;redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fclever.com%2Fin%2Fauth_callback&amp;response_type=code&amp;state=a46f23ab50104ba8fc16345e8ce037cfde786e542dfbd582423f038a7bf72791\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clever<\/a>\u202fto find the programs they use, such as Smarty Ants, My Path, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, and others.<\/p>\n<h2>Talk About Your Child\u2019s Progress with Their Teachers<\/h2>\n<p>Attending parent-teacher conferences shows your child how much you support them. If your child\u2019s scheduled conference time does not work for you, contact the teacher to choose a time to visit your student\u2019s classroom, talk about their progress, and share ways to help your child learn.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to check your student\u2019s backpack every day for homework and important school messages. Teachers and staff regularly send home reports to monitor and ensure each student\u2019s progress. If you would like more conferences, meetings, or reports, please tell your child\u2019s teacher.<\/p>\n<h2>Volunteer<\/h2>\n<p>Hopkins Lloyd is committed to involving families in our school. Parents and guardians are encouraged to find out how to assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to see their families and school working together for them.<\/p>\n<p>At Hopkins Lloyd, we are proud to have many active parent volunteers. Please make sure that your child(ren) are at school, on time, every day. The school day starts at 7:35am and ends at 2:20 pm. If your child(ren) will be absent, please make sure to let the office know by calling (414) 267-0600. Thank you for supporting your child(ren)\u2019s attendance at school!\r\n<h2>Assist Your Child with Homework<\/h2>\r\nYour child\u2019s teacher will communicate with you about the type of homework that is appropriate for your child. Be sure to provide a quiet time and place for homework.\r\n<h2>Help Your Child Improve Their Scores<\/h2>\r\nPrograms used in the classroom can be utilized by your child at home to help them improve academically. Have your student login through <a href=\"https:\/\/clever.com\/in\/milwaukee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Clever<\/a> to find all programs they can access including Smarty Ants, My Path, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, etc.\r\n<h2>Discuss Your Child\u2019s Progress with Their Teachers<\/h2>\r\nAttend parent\/teacher conferences, or arrange for a special conference with your child\u2019s teacher. If time does not permit, a phone call or a brief note is appreciated.\r\nFamilies play a vital role in education. Parents are encouraged to work with teachers to decide on an appropriate time to visit their child\u2019s classroom, discuss student progress and share ways to increase learning. Reports are sent home to parents and conferences are scheduled regularly to assess each student\u2019s progress. Staff will honor parental requests for additional conferences, meetings or reports at any time.\r\n<h2>Classroom Assistance\/Volunteering<\/h2>\r\nHopkins Lloyd Community School understands the connection between family support and student success; therefore, we are committed to involving families in their child\u2019s education. Parents and guardians are encouraged to come to Hopkins Lloyd and assist teachers in their classrooms. This allows children to combine support from home with support at school, making for positive results.\r\n\r\nWe have very active parent volunteers. We are always looking for more caring, motivated individuals to work with our students.
