Kagel School. Our enriching and evidence-based Two-Way Bilingual Dual Language program brings together students from various cultural backgrounds. Every classroom is a community where students can deepen their understanding and appreciation of their own culture and experience other cultures while pursuing academic excellence in both languages. All educators teach the same subjects, use the same academic standards, and use appropriate assessments to prepare students for high school.

Junior Achievement of Wisconsin

The Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money, and more.  Kagel fifth graders run the show at Junior Achievement’s BizTown simulation as part of MPS Learning Journeys Program.

Learning Journeys

Learning Journeys are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students’ career awareness (K4–grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4, 5, and 8).

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Milwaukee Public Schools uses PBIS to promote positive student behavior. After years of use, districts across the country, MPS included, are reporting increases in student achievement, more positive school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and disciplinary referrals.

PBIS uses a three-tiered approach. Tier one teaches expectations to all students and promotes collaboration and consistency in the classroom: Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with school expectations. Tiers two and three provide structure, interventions, and follow up for students who need more support.

Project Lead The Way

Students in all 50 states and 40+ Milwaukee Public Schools explore STEM concepts and the engineering professions through project-based, tech-enabled lessons. Based on national and state STEM standards and taught by our certified educators, our Project Lead The Way program prepares students for advanced studies in more than a dozen MPS PLTW labs.

K4 through fifth-grade Kagel students experience the PLTW Launch curriculum. PLTW Launch taps into students’ exploratory nature, engages them in learning that feels like play, and encourages them to keep discovering.

Second Step

Schools district-wide use Second Step social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum. Students participate in weekly lessons that teach human skills like building healthy relationships, identifying and managing emotions, making decisions, and setting goals. Grade-level lessons involve videos, activities, and instruction that promote student well-being and success in the classroom, at home, and over a lifetime. Families can access Second Step curriculum and other resources that support healthy social and emotional development.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Supporting students’ academic performance, classroom engagement, college and career goals, and overall well-being are the focus of these programs at Albert E.
