Our hard-working staff promotes high academic achievement among students while equipping them with positive self-esteem. At Dr. King School, students receive the support they need through the collaboration of our compassionate parents, dedicated teachers and supportive community members.

With a curricular focus on the integration of African-American history and culture across subject areas, our school offers students a unique learning opportunity. The entire school climate embraces the rich traditions of the African-American culture, reminding students to value their heritage while respecting the customs of other groups of people. We compare our African-American centered curriculum with the roots of a tree – lessons run deep into the past and provide nourishment for the present.

At Dr. King School, we value our families and the crucial role they play in each child’s educational success. We work with our families to plan together, analyze student achievement data and discuss intervention strategies for students so they focus on performing at their maximum potential. We appreciate the input of our families and encourage parents to stay involved in their child’s education by volunteering and attending Dr. King School Council and PTO meetings.

Students are encouraged to participate in the many extracurricular activities offered through our extraordinary learning program. From basketball and cheerleading to Imani dancing, choir or peer tutoring, extracurricular activities afford students the opportunity to develop interests in new activities and to realize their natural abilities. Team sports and clubs also allow peers to work together to achieve a common goal as they develop new friendships, learn good sportsmanship and stay mentally and physically fit.

Dr. King School’s outstanding community partners provide generous contributions that enhance student achievement. These long-term partners offer our students unique learning experiences outside of the classroom as well as new programs in which they can participate in order to advance their knowledge on real-world issues.
