Greetings to all families, friends, and community members!
2024 | Green Schools Principal of the Year
2023 | Northwest Region Principal Award
2023 | Superintendent’s Principal Award
My name is Keushum Willingham, and I am proud to serve as principal of Richard Kluge Elementary School of the Arts.
At Kluge, we take the time and effort to ensure that all students, families, visitors, and friends feel valued from the moment they arrive at our school. Our staff provides a safe, caring, and supportive environment where every child can grow and thrive creatively and academically.
Communication with our families is the key to building strong, lasting partnerships that support student success. I am a strong believer that when you treat people with love and kindness—and truly listen to them—they become allies. Being an advocate, a listener, and a consistent communicator helps me to continue the important work we all do for our students.
With 24 years of experience, including 10 years teaching fifth grade, I am passionate about supporting children and families. Throughout my career, I have been honored with several recognitions that reflect not just my work, but the strength of the communities I’ve had the privilege to serve. As a Milwaukee native, I am deeply committed to giving back to the city that shaped me.
I went to MPS myself and graduated from Rufus King High School (go, Generals!). I went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Kentucky State University and a master’s from Cardinal Stritch University. Being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha™ taught me the values of leadership and service, which I bring to Kluge through our student ambassador program and our culture of strong family involvement. We are always looking for parent volunteers, so please don’t hesitate to ask how you can have a more active role at Kluge.
Together, we can continue to uplift our school and community. Thank you for joining Team Kluge and for entrusting us with your children. I look forward to meeting each of you in person.
In service,
Keushum Willingham, Principal
