More than 30 percent of our 450 students use their first language of Spanish to learn to read, write, and speak English. Bilingual classrooms, a library filled with stories of families from around the world, and school celebrations reinforce Lincoln Avenue School’s Hispanic heritage. Together, we are learning peaceful restorative practices to live school values like healthy eating, conservation, and multicultural pride. Health partners bring nutrition classes to Lincoln Avenue School, and students visit our neighborhood arboretum and riverfront park to learn about the natural world. In 2020, the U.S. Department of Education even awarded Lincoln Avenue with Milwaukee Public Schools’ first Green Ribbon School Award for our environmental education and conservation efforts.

Our faculty participate in teacher-training programs that blend special and bilingual education strategies to help all children succeed. Technology is embedded in every classroom so students can build math and computer literacy skills. We are proud of all we have accomplished together, including Meets Expectations status on our 2022-23 school report card.

What matters most is a child’s well-being, from home to school. Weekly art, gym, and music classes allow students to flex their creativity and explore mind-body wellness. Mental-health, neighborhood safety, and academic organizations support student learning and family health through the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership. Parents join Lincoln Avenue’s Family Leadership Organization and Community School Leadership Team. Family events overlap with our after-school program so it’s easy to drop in and enjoy literacy or STEM night, family dinners, and parent workshops. In 2024, our green footprint expands as we break ground on a redeveloped schoolyard that will bring outdoor classrooms, gardens, and new play surfaces and structures to Lincoln Avenue School.

Lincoln Avenue School is proud to be a member of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership (MCSP). Through MCSP, our students, families, teachers, staff, neighbors, and partners come together to form a strategy that best meets the needs of our students. We work toward academic success and personal well-being for our children.

School Community Partnership for Mental Health

Since 2009, the School Community Partnership for Mental Health (SCPMH) has provided intensive, on-site mental wellness programs and mental health services to students and families in Milwaukee Public Schools. The partnership began in just four schools and has expanded to nearly 40 schools, including Lincoln Avenue School.

After School Program

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Community Learning Center at Lincoln Avenue School provides after-school programs to K4 through fifth-grade students in partnership with Milwaukee Recreation and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee. The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center at Lincoln Avenue School provides academic enrichment, homework help, social-emotional learning, arts programming, and nutritious meals or snacks to students.
