When caregivers are partners in their child’s learning journey and contribute to Lincoln Avenue School as committee members, volunteers, and advocates, our entire school performs better.
Family Resources and Events
Lincoln Avenue School has a dedicated parent coordinator on staff to answer questions about parent engagement, family events, and school and community resources.
Joselynd Falero is our parent coordinator who runs our Parent Resource Center, open during school hours. Please stop in the main office to sign in and ask for directions.
- Visit the Parent Resource Center to complete a volunteer application, request translation or interpretation support, and review our Parent Resource Binder.
- Contact the Parent Resource Center by calling the main office (414) 902-9700.
Meet our teachers and staff and connect with other Lincoln Avenue families during school events. Expect a crowd, as anywhere from 200 to 300 members of our school community attend to support all students and share the Lincoln Avenue Eagles pride.
Community School Leadership Team (CSLT)
As a Community School, we work with staff, students, families, community partners and neighbors to identify needs and determine strategies to best ensure student and school success. Family members and community partners are invited to monthly CSLT meetings, held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the third Monday of every month .
Family Leadership Organization (FLO)
As a Community School, Lincoln Avenue School families have a voice in discussions and decision making to support our students. All family members are invited to monthly FLO meetings, held 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., the final Thursday of every month.
Financial Literacy Workshops
Experts from the UW Credit Union present bilingual financial planning workshops to our families every spring.
Lincoln Avenue Eagles Athletics
Our athletics program brings families together to cheer on Lincoln Avenue School’s basketball, cheerleading, and soccer teams during weekend games. Family members are our biggest cheerleaders and also our volunteer coaches.
Lincoln Diner
This monthly event brings teachers, parents, and students together to work on homework, develop biliteracy skills, and enjoy a family meal. The community atmosphere and delicious dinner makes homework fun, and supports healthy eating and reading habits for our families.
Helping with Homework
At home, be sure to provide a quiet time and place for your child to do homework. At home, your child also has access to the same online programs they use in class. Have your student log in through Clever to find learning programs like Smarty Ants, Discovery Education, Flocabulary, and others.
Communicating with Your Child’s Teacher
Stay in touch with your child’s teacher and stay up to date on their academic goals and accomplishments. Students feel extra motivated when they see teachers and parents working as a team to reinforce high expectations and positive learning strategies.
Teachers send progress reports to parents and guardians and hold conferences, and teachers and staff are ready to help Lincoln Avenue School families with extra meetings or reports. Here are some tips for building a strong parent-teacher relationship to support your child.
- Collect current school and teacher contact information at the beginning of each school year. You can gather this information from teacher handouts and during open-house events.
- Join Class Dojo, a digital communication app that Lincoln Avenue School teachers and coaches use to easily, quickly communicate with families. Your child’s teacher will provide login information at the beginning of the school year or sports season.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences. Students are proud to “show off” their school and feel supported when teachers and caregivers make time to meet at a conference or school event.
- If a scheduled conference time does not work for you, contact the teacher to choose a different time. Or schedule a virtual appointment or phone call with the teacher. Ask if your child should attend.
- Send your child to school with a bookbag every day and check the bookbag when they come home at night. Lots of important paperwork travels from school to your home and back again in your child’s bookbag: assignments, permission slips, classroom updates, and school calendars.
Supporting Your Child’s Education at Home
Family involvement leads to better grades, better attendance, improved test scores, higher self-esteem, and better behavior for children. Supporting your child’s success at Lincoln Avenue School includes practices and priorities like:
- Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day (7:25 a.m.).
- Call the attendance line when your child will be absent, at (414) 902-9700. We must be sure every student has arrived safely and follow up with any who are absent. We must also record absences correctly.
- Ensure that your child gets at least nine hours of sleep every night.
- Dress your child appropriately for the weather. Please tell us if your student needs a coat or other outerwear.
- Check your child’s bookbag every day for homework or important messages.
- Help your child with homework. At home, have a quiet time and place for homework.
- Read with your child every day.
- Volunteer at school. Learn more about volunteering with MPS.
- Ask how you can join our field trips.
