Arts

Lincoln Center of the Arts has been educating students who shine and inspire since 1992.

Specialist teachers guide students through an exploration of the visual and performing arts. The critical thinking, problem-solving, and presentation skills students develop in classes like music tech and visual art support overall academic achievement. These skills transfer well to every subject a student learns, from computer science and math to health and history.

The visual arts surround and inspire our students. Arts specialists guide them through projects and lessons that teach technique and beautify our school. Students learn to trust their creative instincts in group and solo art projects that convey ideas and express emotion. A resident artist works with students interested in drawing, digital photography, stained glass, and screen printing.

Lincoln students develop a deep appreciation and understanding of music. Sixth graders study music technology and learn to keep the beat in drumline practice and dance class. Musicians in all grades may participate in Lincoln’s award-winning band and orchestral ensembles.

6th Grade

Sixth graders take introductory dance and music classes: band, orchestra, or music technology. Visual arts classes cover graphic design, painting and drawing, and provide other art-making opportunities.

7th and 8th Grade

Students choose two focus areas that offer in-depth teaching and skill-building opportunities in classes like:

  • Dance
  • Graphic or visual arts, including opportunities to learn about digital photography and create and solder stained glass with Lincoln artist in residence Bob Danner.
  • Music tech, beginner or intermediate band, beginner or intermediate orchestra.

Performance Season

Seasonal showcases highlight students’ academic and artistic accomplishments. Students perform and inform, discussing their artistry with classmates and explaining their creative choices to family and friends attending our special events.

Lincoln Center of the Arts’ year-long performance season includes fall, winter, and spring showcases, our Black History Month program, and springtime Jazz in the Parking Lot. Family and community fill seats and students take the stage during Lincoln Center of the Arts winter and spring showcases and other special events.

Local Arts Organizations

Milwaukee’s vibrant performing arts community provides a wonderful foundation for our students. Lincoln families are encouraged to enjoy camps, workshops, performances, and more from creative arts organizations and retailers city-wide.
