How do I obtain a work permit?

Students who are 14 or 15 years old need a work permit if they receive a job offer that is neither domestic service work nor agriculture. Students who are 16 or 17 years old do not need a work permit.

Applying for a permit:

  • Tell your parent or guardian about your job offer, including the name of your employer. Ask your parent or guardian to help you apply for a work permit through the Department of Workforce Development. Tell them a $10 fee is required to complete the online application process. Employers must reimburse this fee by the time you receive your first check.
