Milwaukee Marshall High School offers innovative programs like 3DE, HOSA, and PLTW to provide students with hands-on learning, career exploration, mentorship, and much more.
3DE
3DE is a competency-based curriculum designed by Junior Achievement to introduce students to the higher-order thinking required for workplace success. In the 3DE model—available in only two MPS high schools—teachers and students are grouped into small cohorts to build a sense of connection and trust. 3DE coursework is interconnected through different subjects and supported by an interdisciplinary team of five to eight teachers.
Through this program, our ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders engage with local and national businesses to work through unique challenges created just for them. 3DE encourages student collaboration through small group discussions and facilitated debates. This approach boosts social and emotional skills, gives students an active role in their learning, and closely mimics the real world to more fully prepare students for a future in the workforce.
Alternative Education
Students who are at risk of graduating late or who fall behind on credits may access individualized teaching support, an alternative schedule, accelerated courses, and other accommodations. These programs are designed to get them back on track to graduation.

Competency-Based Learning
Students who are 17 years old and demonstrate a reading level below ninth grade can participate in competency-based learning. These project/activity-based courses allow students to show proficiency and earn credit at their own pace to complete graduation requirements.
GED Option #2
Students who are 17 years old and demonstrate a ninth-grade reading level can participate in GED Option #2. This program allows students to obtain high school credits by successfully passing state GED exams for English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students must also complete a career readiness portfolio to help transition to life beyond high school.
GPS Ed
Students earn credit toward a high-school diploma and gain professional experience. This program provides work-based learning experiences at manufacturing companies in the Milwaukee area.
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America)
HOSA is a student-led organization that prepares high school students for careers in healthcare. Through hands-on learning, competitions, leadership opportunities, and community service, students build medical knowledge, professional skills, and a strong foundation for future success in health-related fields.
Mentoring
414Life
414Life is a program that engages community members for violence prevention outreach and targeted conflict mediation.
Boys to Men
The Boys to Men mentorship program supports young men in developing confidence, growing their leadership skills, and making good choices. Through mentorship, group discussions, and real-world experiences, students build strong character, set goals for their future, and learn how to navigate challenges both in and out of school.
PLTW: Project Lead The Way
PLTW is the nation’s leading provider of K–12 STEM programs. Students at Marshall can earn college credit by examination at the end of each course.
Pathway: PLTW Biomedical Science
Pathway: PLTW Computer Science
Pathway: PLTW Engineering
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
To promote positive student behavior and improve learning, MPS uses a system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
PBIS is a three-tiered approach that begins by teaching expectations and encouraging collaboration and consistency in classrooms. Teachers and students co-design agreements and routines that align with three districtwide expectations: “Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.” For students who need more support, higher tiers offer structure, interventions, and follow-up to address specific concerns.
After years of use, MPS and other districts across the country are reporting higher student achievement, improved school environments, and fewer classroom disruptions and student suspensions.
