The tournament awards State Championships in 3 of the sections: K-5th; K-8th; and High School Varsity plus a Junior Varsity (K-12th) Section (no State JV Championship exists). These schools winning are awarded a permanent trophy and hold the traveling trophy until the next year’s tournament. MGIS students competed in the K-5th Championship Section with Joshua Wormsbacher, Elliot Jagemann, Emerson Trumbull-Holper, and Will Boehm being MGIS’s top 4 scorers. Joshua, Elliot, and Emerson all finished 4-1 and tied for 5th place individually: On tie-breaks, Joshua finished 6th, Elliot 10th, and Emerson 13th; Will finished with 2-1-2 and placed 20th out of 98 competitors. The team scored 15 points out of 20, winning their third straight K-5th State Championship. MGIS is the only MPS school to ever win the K-5th State Championship and the only school to ever win three championships in a row. MGIS has won those 3 State Championships with a different group of top scorers every year.
