Activities

Students can grow as performers, athletes, and strategists when they join extracurricular clubs and teams at Milwaukee German Immersion School.

We offer a variety of after-school activities for students, which can vary based on staff and student participation. Parents and caregivers, please join us in encouraging your child’s participation.

Students develop their creative vision and refine the artistic techniques they learn in visual arts class. Art Club members access extra time, supplies, and guidance from teachers and fellow creators as they work on projects.

Chess Club (Schachklub)

Beginning to advanced chess players are welcome. Schachklub has more than 100 members who practice after school and is the largest chess club in Wisconsin.

Tournament Chess Team (Schachverein MGIS)

Coached by Principal Thor Templin, our tournament team welcomes experienced chess players in all grade levels and compete at weekend tournaments. Schachverein MGIS earned the Wisconsin State Scholastic K-5 Champion title in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2025, MGIS strategists brought home the inaugural MPS K-5 Chess Champion trophy.

Choir (Chor)

Choir membership enhances students’ singing abilities, German music knowledge, confidence and is an opportunity to make new friends. Singers in grades three through five showcase their talents throughout the school year and across the community: Milwaukee Art Museum, City Hall, Pfister Hotel, Brookfield Square and Southridge Malls. “Chor” represents MGIS at the MPS Biennial Music Festival.

Dance Club (Tanzgruppe)

Students learn, practice, and perform German folk dances at school celebrations and regional cultural events such as German Fest Milwaukee.

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast

Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast provides friendship, adventure, give-back opportunities, leadership, new skills, and fun for Girl Scouts in grades K5-12. As a Girl Scout, you can discover what you’re passionate about, take fun trips, and find the space to unapologetically be yourself with a squad ready to cheer you on. MGIS Girl Scouts start in K5. Troops in each grade are parent-led. Financial Aid is available. Please contact Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast at (414) 476-1050 to learn about forming a troop.

Girls on the Run

Fun, evidence-based programs inspire girls to build their confidence, kindness, and decision-making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.

Green Team

MGIS Green Team meets weekly to discuss matters related to keeping our redeveloped schoolyard green, growing, and in good working order. The club also focuses on recycling and composting efforts within the school building.

LEGO Klub

Students from K5 to fifth grade work on weekly challenges like making and launching LEGO vehicles and bridge-building competitions. Whose bridge can hold the most weight?
