Founded by parents in 2001, the nonprofit German Immersion Foundation supports programs at Milwaukee German Immersion School and Milwaukee School of Languages (MSL).
The foundation’s work includes fundraisers such as an annual fall social, golf outing, spring gala, and auction. Proceeds are invested in resources and opportunities that directly benefit MGIS and MSL students:
- Gap funding to purchase updated technology
- Curriculum translation
- International Intern Program
- Professional development for teachers
Foundation events also raise awareness of the benefits of immersion education.
Mission
The German Immersion Foundation (GIF) supports Milwaukee German Immersion School (MGIS) and Milwaukee School of Languages (MSL) by providing the additional resources to fully fund programs needed to prepare children to excel in the competitive global marketplace.
History
After several consecutive years of budget cuts to their children’s school, a handful of committed MGIS parents joined together in 2001 to form the German Immersion Foundation. This nonprofit entity would raise funds to support two Milwaukee education treasures—Milwaukee German Immersion School and Milwaukee School of Languages.
Sustaining a high-quality immersion education at both schools remains the foundation’s primary focus. Student test scores at MGIS and MSL rival those from top performing school districts and private schools.
