Enrollment at Milwaukee High School of the Arts (MHSA) involves an application and an audition.
Freshman Enrollment
Seats at MHSA are limited, so we recommend applying during the high school enrollment window in the fall.
Fall Enrollment (Priority Seating)
This is the recommended path for eighth graders who are interested in MHSA. All students must complete both steps by the end of March to secure their enrollment for the following fall.
- Step 1: Fall Enrollment Application
Prospective ninth graders are encouraged to complete the official high school enrollment application in the fall of their eighth-grade year. - Step 2: Arts Major Selection and Audition
To finalize their application, students must:- Choose which program to pursue.
- Complete the required audition. The audition results are used to assign programs and class levels to accepted students.
Late Enrollment
If seats are still available, students who did not apply to MHSA during the high school fall enrollment window may apply and audition in the spring.
Transfer Students (Grades 9–11)
Students may only begin at MHSA at the start of the spring or fall semesters; we do not accept mid-semester transfer students. Those who are interested in enrolling for the upcoming semester should complete the Transfer Student Document Upload form. You will need a copy of your transcript, most recent grades, and attendance record. After your information has been reviewed to ensure MHSA is a good fit, you will be invited to audition.
Waitlist Policy
Late applicants (including transfer students) will be placed on a waitlist after completing the audition. Enrollment offers will be made beginning in April depending on availability.
