“Every decision at Mitchell School is about putting students first.” – Kim Malacara, Principal
Certified educators teach standards-based lessons in a variety of ways: arts-integration, discussion, presentation, and peer evaluation. Bilingual teachers and creative, project-based lessons help students from Spanish-speaking countries develop bilingual and biliteracy skills as they prepare for high school, college, and career success. Weekly art, music, physical education, and social emotional learning (SEL) classes encourage students to learn about and express themselves through solo and group projects, multicultural performances, and play.
“School celebrations, sports, and creative activities bring students from different backgrounds together,” says Principal Malacara.
A landmark of Milwaukee’s Muskego Way neighborhood, Mitchell School relies on strong family and community connections. Citywide partnerships bring tutors, mentors, and nonprofit leaders into the building daily to support students’ academic achievement and family well-being. After-school enrichment happens at the school’s popular community learning center from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Parents join the Family Leadership Organization, volunteer in the school daily, and coach and cheer on the Mitchell Eagles in soccer, football, and basketball. Many Mitchell families live within walking distance of the school, and its redeveloped schoolyard has become a popular gathering spot for breakfast, soccer, and socializing before and after school.
Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership
Mitchell School is proud to be a member of the Milwaukee Community Schools Partnership (MCSP). Through MCSP, our students, families, teachers, staff, neighbors, and partners come together to form a strategy that best meets the needs of our students. We work toward academic success and personal well-being for our children.
