Schools that receive AGR funding offer extra academic and instructional support, which can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Small class sizes (with 18:1 or 30:2 classroom ratios)<\/li>\n<li>One-on-one tutoring provided by a licensed teacher<\/li>\n<li>Instructional coaching for teachers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Junior Achievement<\/h2>\n<p>We have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement of Wisconsin program, which inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin provides activities, guides, thought leadership and other resources to support age-appropriate learning about leadership, jobs, money and more. Lessons are organized according to the Milwaukee Public Schools Social Studies curriculum and are implemented in K5 classrooms, continuing through eighth grade.<\/p>\n<h2>Learning Journeys<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mpsmke.com\/learningjourneys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learning Journeys<\/a> are educational field trips for all MPS students that are designed to take what students are learning in the classroom out into the real world. These annual opportunities aim to expand students\u2019 career awareness (K4\u2013grade 3) and help them explore potential careers (grades 4, 5, and 8).<\/p>\n<h2>Marquette University Peace Works<\/h2>\n<p>Marquette University Peace Works is a nonviolence, peace education program that utilizes a social-emotional curriculum, restorative practices and peer mediation to teach youth communication skills, active listening skills, critical observation skills, mediation techniques, anger management skills, self-reflection, and problem-solving through practical skill building exercises, group interaction, role play, games, reading, writing, art and reflection. University students train Mitchell School fourth through eighth graders to become peer mediators in their school.<\/p>\n<h2>Milwaukee Art Museum Junior Docent School Program<\/h2>\n<p>The Milwaukee Art Museum Junior Docent School Program invites students in grades three through five to explore the visual arts during 10 visits to the Milwaukee Art Museum where they learn vocabulary, history and develop cultural and historical awareness of different arts styles and disciplines. Students complete their personalized, three-year course of study by selecting, researching, and presenting on a favorite item from the museum\u2019s collection and earning \u201cJunior Docent\u201d status.<\/p>\n<h2>Urban Ecology Center<\/h2>\n<p>The Neighborhood Environmental Education Project (NEEP) engages classes through field trips to local green spaces that enrich the classroom curriculum. Urban Ecology Center educators engage students through hands-on activities, indoors and outdoors. Students may learn about local habitats, identifying plants, finding signs of animal life, or building forts with classmates! Rain or shine, snow or wind, every trip has a portion outdoors and engaging for all students and parent chaperones. Urban Ecology Center has outerwear available to borrow so all participants may explore in any weather. There are three Urban Ecology Center locations; most schools partner with one less than two miles from their school.<\/p>\n<h2>Wisconsin Conservatory of Music<\/h2>\n<p>Wisconsin Conservatory of Music inspires, energizes, and generates lifelong learners through its faculty artist and early childhood community partnership programs. This program builds upon the student's primary language skills and develops and expands the English language skills of each student to enable him or her to achieve proficiency in both languages while providing access to the content areas. Bilingual Programs preserve and enhance students\u2019 skills in their first language while they acquire increasing levels of English. Over three consecutive years, students visit nine times, contextualizing art into their life. ACE integrates music and arts into daily core subjects, giving students a comprehensive learning experience. It is nationally recognized as a model in arts education.\n\n<em>El programa MSO Arts in Community Education es aclamado a nivel nacional y mejora la educaci\u00f3n de los estudiantes a trav\u00e9s de la integraci\u00f3n de la m\u00fasica y el arte en el curr\u00edculo escolar, logrado a trav\u00e9s de seis componentes del programa ACE. Es reconocido a nivel nacional como modelo en la educaci\u00f3n art\u00edstica.<\/em>\n<h2>Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)<\/h2>\n<img class=\"alignright wp-image-295\" src=\"https:\/\/mpsschoolsites.wpenginepowered.com\/mitchell\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2015\/02\/PBIS-Icon-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"120\" \/>PBIS is a joint effort between Milwaukee Public Schools Office of Family Services and the Milwaukee Teachers\u2019 Education Association to effectively reduce classroom disruptions and student suspensions through a school-wide systematic tiered-intervention approach. Data shows that schools that implement PBIS with fidelity see decreases in disruptions and suspensions and increases in student achievement.\n\n<em>PBIS es un esfuerzo conjunto entre la Oficina de Servicios Familiares de las Escuelas P\u00fablicas de Milwaukee y la Asociaci\u00f3n de Educaci\u00f3n de Maestros de Milwaukee para reducir efectivamente las interrupciones en el aula y las suspensiones de estudiantes a trav\u00e9s de un enfoque sistem\u00e1tico de intervenci\u00f3n escalonada en toda la escuela. During the school day, students then participate in one-on-one instruction or small group tutoring sessions with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boysgirlsclubs.org\/resources\/1\/Programs\/SPARK%20AC%20Application%2012-13.doc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Early Literacy Instructor\/SPARK Tutor<\/a>.\n\n<em>El Programa de Alfabetizaci\u00f3n Temprana SPARK lleva la alfabetizaci\u00f3n a todas las esferas de la vida de un ni\u00f1o: el hogar, la comunidad y la escuela.
