Principal’s Message

Greetings, current and future Morse families.

Tanzanique CarringtonAs the proud principal of Morse Middle School for the Gifted and Talented, I am excited to welcome you to our learning community and share some great news. Our school joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) family in 2024 and now offers the Middle Years Programme.

Morse middle schoolers grow as IB learners and prepare for high school in classes like art, music, and Spanish. They embrace new technology and develop design and problem-solving skills in our Verizon Innovative Learning Lab. All students can experience the calming benefits of art and nature in our green and growing redeveloped schoolyard, opened in 2024.

When your child enrolls at Morse, they will join a community of young artists, creators, and leaders who have the full support of our experienced and dedicated faculty. Our alumni wall of fame offers inspiration and boosts Morse Middle School pride, from Shelly Conley, Milwaukee Poet Laureate and founder of My Sistah’s KeepHer to David Bowen, former state representative and county supervisor.

Like many members of the Morse Middle School family, I’m a Milwaukee native. I began my career with Milwaukee Public Schools in 1997 as a paraprofessional and then became a middle school math teacher. After more than a decade in the classroom, I became assistant principal of Lincoln Center of the Arts in 2008 and then principal of Hartford Avenue University School. From 2016 to 2019, I was principal of Rufus King International School, one of Wisconsin’s top-ranked high schools.

My education background includes a BA in Africology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, two MA degrees in education from Alverno College—professional development and administrative leadership—and a doctorate degree from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

If you have questions about your Morse student, would like to engage as a parent or community partner, or wish to schedule a tour, please reach out. And remember, “Morse Hawks are soaring to the top and leading for the future.”

Sincerely,

Dr. Tanzanique Carrington, principal
