Extracurricular clubs and teams can help young minds refresh and refocus. Students who join our Hawks teams and after-school clubs can build new skills, make new friends, and develop a deeper sense of self-confidence and Morse Middle School pride.
Most clubs and teams meet once per week at 4:30 p.m. and are led by teachers. Ask our parent coordinator or your child’s classroom teacher for sign-up and schedule information.
Athletics
The Morse Hawks compete in several sports. Reach out to Athletics Director Shavonda Bethly at bethlyst@milwaukee.k12.wi.us for information about our boys’ basketball or girls’ basketball team. Our athletics program also includes coed cheerleading, flag football, soccer, track, and volleyball teams.
Art Club
Students develop their creative vision and refine artistic techniques they learn in visual arts classes. Art Club members access extra time, supplies, and guidance from teachers and fellow creators as they work on projects.
Battle of the Books
Students team up to read assigned fiction and nonfiction books on many topics. Reading, reviewing, and drilling with teammates from November to January prepares students for a Family Feud-style competition in early spring. Battle of the Books meets during the school day.
Chess Club
Many club members are learning and playing chess for the first time, but they are natural strategists. Coached by our school social worker, the Morse Hawks are winning district and regional chess tournaments.
Circle Keepers Restorative Justice Group
Students become peer mediators, helping their classmates navigate social and emotional skills like setting goals, establishing trust, and managing conflict. Our school social worker provides restorative practices-based training and support to peer mediators. Circle Keepers meet and mediate during the school day.
Dance Team
So you think you can dance? It doesn’t matter. Movers and groovers of all experience levels are welcome. Together, Morse dancers learn, practice, and perform routines at school celebrations and athletic events.
Film Club
Morse Middle School film fans enjoy free popcorn, flicks, and discussion on Thursday evenings. Film Club ends at 6:30 p.m. Every member must be picked up by a parent or caregiver.
Girls of Color
The Girls of Color program creates true collaborative partnerships with school sites that demonstrate a true commitment, capacity and structure to elevate, enhance and/or improve how they support girls of color. Girls of Color meets during the school day and is supported by the MPS Department of Gender & Identity Inclusion.
Green Team
The Green Team works on reducing our school’s carbon footprint and caring for the trees, pollinators, and native plants in our redeveloped schoolyard. Opened in 2024, the shared Morse Middle-Milwaukee Sign Language School green space brings outdoor classrooms, performance, and play spaces—for gaga ball, soccer, basketball and more—to our campus. Green infrastructure captures more than 836,000 gallons of stormwater when it rains.
My Sista’s KeepHer
My Sista’s KeepHer empowers young girls and women to love themselves and each other using the art of poetry to promote positive self-expression, achievement of their dreams and the ability to live healthy, safe, and productive lives. My Sista’s KeepHer meets during the school day.
Student Leadership Club
Respected student leaders help administrators build and brighten our school culture. Students make recommendations to design and adjust strategies and incentives that support our school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports framework. Traditional and emerging student leaders from all grades are welcome. Members may be elected by peers or nominated by staff. Student Leadership Club meets during the school day.
Tutoring Club
Teachers provide homework help and academic support in all subjects. Tutoring Club meets Monday through Thursday afternoons.
