It is my pleasure to welcome you to a new school year at Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School (MSIS)! As the interim principal, I am honored to be part of a school community that is dedicated to academic excellence and the development of bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural students.<\/p>\n
At MSIS, we are proud to offer an immersive Spanish language environment where students begin their journey toward bilingualism from day one. Formal instruction in English reading and language arts begins in 2nd grade, and we deeply value the partnership with our families in supporting language development at home.<\/p>\n
To help our students succeed, it is essential that families continue to encourage English literacy outside of school, while also reinforcing the use of Spanish\u2014especially during the school day. Together, we can ensure our students grow confidently in both languages and thrive in our global society.<\/p>\n
At the heart of a strong school is a strong connection between home and school. We are committed to building meaningful relationships with families and believe that collaboration and communication are key to student success. Volunteers are always welcome at MSIS! We invite you to get involved by joining our Parent Teacher Association (PTA)<\/a> and School Engagement Council (SEC)<\/a>. \u00a1Bienvenidos! Welcome to Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School (MSIS)! As principal of MSIS, I take pride in our learning environment, where we value cultural awareness and diversity. Located in a quiet, residential area on Milwaukee\u2019s south side, MSIS is a safe place for students to advance their education, build their confidence and develop into well-rounded, independent learners during their K4 \u2013 grade 5 educational experience.\r\n\r\nAt MSIS, Spanish serves as a medium for teaching as well as a topic of instruction. K4, K5 and 1st grade learners are only instructed in Spanish. Students begin formal English reading and language arts instruction in 2nd grade and continue to be instructed in Spanish in all other subject areas except English. This method ensures that students become proficient in two languages, giving them an advantage in the real world. MSIS graduates leave our school with values that will last a lifetime. They embrace and respect all groups of people while recognizing each culture\u2019s uniqueness and contributions to society today.\r\n\r\nWhile our strong academic curriculum pushes students to challenge themselves and opens new doors to their futures, MSIS also provides a variety of extracurricular options for students to hone their natural abilities and collaborate with their peers. With sports and club activities offered to all students, there is something for everyone. Our coaches and club leaders motivate students to be the best they can be while building their confidence and improving their skills.\r\n\r\nThe MSIS staff realizes the importance of maintaining strong bonds with MSIS families. At our school, family involvement is a must! Our active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and School Engagement Council (SEC) support school programs and activities, facilitate the educational plan and drive academic decisions. From joining the PTA or simply attending a movie night at MSIS with your child, parents are given many opportunities to play a role in their child\u2019s education. In addition, parents are encouraged to volunteer in the school office or classroom and chaperone field trips.\r\n\r\nOur community partners help MSIS students gain integral experiences outside the classroom. Local organizations support our school mission by simply showing our students that they believe in them.
